I'm getting a Mac Pro in about a month and was wondering if I should purchase Modo along with it. Does anyone recommend Modo? I've been reading about it and watching video demonstrations and it looks very fun and productive at the same time. I've used 3DS Max (which was okay, but frusterating), Lightwave (which was quite good) and Maya (which I hated.) Modo looks really good for someone who is a designer and isn't a dedicated 3D artist or motion graphics effects specialist. Should I purchase it? (I would be getting a student version of the software at $189, even though that is super cheap compared to the full version, it's still quite a lot considering I'm spending $2,300 on a Mac Pro and I'm a student with little money. hahaha)

Thanks guys!

I very, very highly reccommend Modo. It's awesome, it's incredibly intuitive, I absolutely love it. If you get any 3D program, get Modo.

I would recommend Modo w/Lightwave if possible. They work quite well together and as you may know the creators of modo were also the programming team behind LW. Modo as a modeller I must say is pretty much unmatched. It lacks animation tools atm. Once you get LW w/Fprime I doubt you will want to use another package again :D . Anyway if you can swing Modo, I would get it. 202 is great. The rendering I am still on the fence on, but it s great.

Oh yea and 202 fixed the high poly bug, which is why I stopped using it for a while.

I have Modo, Lightwave, and Maya, and I use Mental Ray for rendering sometimes, but never Lightwave. Lightwave has pretty much fallen out of my production pipeline.

Get Fprime, it will change your pipeline. Plus lightwave supports microdisplacement now  Mental Ray has never done anything for me LW's native renderer couldnt...May have to revisiti it tho,

I have Fprime. :P While it's very cool, I get much faster and higher quality results with Mental Ray.

Your gonna have to show me that...

Well I have seen some better renders depending on scenes. But for scene setup and realtime feedback cant be beat. I actually use LW's native render more than Fprime/G2.
