I have an online store and a couple of product images look a bit dodgy. The store has one image per product and scales it down in the browser to create thumbnails. My problem here is two of them, when it scales down these line drawings a lot of the lines dissapear. At first i thought it was becuse they were gifs and the rest were jpgs, so I changed one but it made no difference. I then realised the problem images were a lot crisper than the ones that work so i tried thickening the lines as I thought maybe it was trying to scale a line 1px thick to be smaller. But that has made little difference too. Here are the images, http://www.cotswood-doors.co.uk/catalog/external-doors-handcrafted-c-1_7_11.html the problem ones are 'cottage 3 light vertical' and 'cottage diamond light'. The first is the new thicker jpg and the second is still a gif. Thanks for any advice you can give, this is driving me mad!

This happens when you scale down to a non-natural size (ie half, 1/4th, 1/8th are more natural size than 1/3rd 1/6th etc...)... Try using a better scale. You're bound to run into such problems when you rescale.

I was able to "thicken" the lines and make it work, but when you go to full size of course the lines are "thicker". So I don't know if that is what you want.

What you have to do is put a Curves Adjustment layer above the lines you created for the thicker look.

Also, you can select the diamond and make a new layer with it and then darken it also with Curves so it doesn't get lost in the new darker lines.

The reason to put it on a seperate layer with adjustment is that you can tweak it independantly.

What program are you using for these thimbnails if its AI you could just expand the lines that should fix your problem.

Cheers everyone! Well I was given all jpgs but these two were bmps I converted in photoshop. I have no idea what a curves adjustment layer is... is that illustrator? I could just redraw them i spose. I'll try changin the scale first. Thanks again.

Ah Ive found curves adjustment in photoshop but I dunno how it works? Could you please give me some pointers as to how you got it to work?
