Hi there. Long time no see.
Still trying to learn C4D. The next step was animation. Decided to go for a scene from "The Matrix".
It's my first basic character rig and animation with Cinema4D ever. The scene is going to be around 50 seconds (1475 frames). I hope to get it finished in about two weeks.
I'm mainly creating this to get the hang of animating and rigging. But it turned out better than I expected, so decided to post it on some forums to see what you guys and girls think of it. :)
Rendered the lowpoly characters with anti-aliasing set to geometry to save some time.
I made a short >> TEASER VIDEO (http://www.rainman.nl/other/cinema4d/matrix/matrix_teaser.mov) << (926KB).
And here are some preview images.

Thst damn cool, is the main 50 second thing pure 3D or does it have fade outs to text?

Looking good mate. Rigging is a tough job huh? :D
Did you uv map the textures on or use just some standard textures and apply them to the polys?

Figures look like their wearing super hero spandex suits, but damn it looks awsome.

Thanks for the replies people! :D

I hope I can do a 720 x 306 resolution video. Don't know about the rendertime though. It'll take a very long time to render almost 1500 frames with that resolution on my machine. I'm going to hook up my 2nd PC to see how much faster it is to NET render the animation.

The 50 seconds is a pure 3D scene, no text, no fade in/outs. I might put some text in front of the animation and maybe some credits after it, but the main animation is 50 seconds.

Oh yeah. Rigging is difficult indeed. Now I know what I did wrong with these characters. I can't position the legs the way I want without messing up the body. So in my next animation I have to spend some more time with the Claude Bonet tool. lol
For the textures I've just used basic colors and applied them to the polys. I might use some screenshots to make the materials a bit nicer. Especially the front of the jackets of both characters.

LOL, at least they can move around in their spandex suits. ;)
I might create a Clothilde long jacket for the Neo character. Not sure if I can still do that now that I've got 900 frames animated already. Hope so.

Yeah with the rigging you really gotta figure out where to weight meshes, and also where exactly the natural joints sit. One important one is the special (non existing) mid join the arm that helps twist the wrist. :P rigging is fun though :)

Ladies and gentlepeople.... I finished it! LOL
There's no sound though. I tried to contact WB to ask permission to use the soundclip from the movie, but my email was rejected every time. I've tried several different email addresses.
SMALL download version (8MB) 320x160 (http://www.rainman.nl/other/cinema4d/matrix/sml_release_01.mov)
LARGE download version (23.6MB) 720x340 (http://www.rainman.nl/other/cinema4d/matrix/big_release_01.mov)
Hope you like my first animation. I hope there will be more to come in the future. ;)

Gaaaahhh!!!! SO... TIGHT!!!
Just one thing: Get some motion-blurring on that. It'll make it look 4000x more realistic ;)

Thanks a lot for the comments.
LOL, darkmotion! :D
I thought about motionblurring but that means it takes at least 5x the amount of time when rendering the animation. Since it already took 14 hours to render the big version, I decided to leave the motionblurring out.

heh that must have sucked to wait for :P
When i needed things done- i popped them over to the studio and pooped them out in a few mins hahaha :P

Yea I would post in AE....Very awesome animation especially for a first. I know the style is cartoony and realism isnt the main goal, but if your subjects had more loading to their motions and moves, this would be a A1 animation. But I love the overall animation, texturing and lighting....real good. 14hrs for that animation is not that bad. I have seen worse. Did you try baking your GI and textures? Might cut down on that tremendously if not.
DM I would love to see some of your animations. You seem to be the resident animation guy.

:P hehehehehehehehehehehe
I am planning to get some majorish animation going for some uni work in september :D (well starting to animate the thing in september).
I am still fairly new to 3d, so most of the animation is gonna be 2d, - the sets bieng 3d :P
Heheh we should reaaaaalllly get a nice collab going at some point and make a nice short film :)

Hmm... Something like ReelSmart Motion Blur, although it's nowhere near as good as true vector motion blurring. I hear Discreet Inferno does a good job of it... Perhaps look into that :krazy:
I usually don't care about render time. The good thing with C4D is, you can still do things while it's rendering. I mean, I can minimise C4D and open Firefox or something without seeing any performance loss. Wouldn't DREAM of doing that with 3dsmax or Maya ;)

i try not to breath in the same room as the computer when maya is rendering, lol.
