Ok ive just got hold of fireworks MX i dont want to have to learn it inside out as im already ok with creating stuff in it.
However i would like to know what is the best resolution to set it to (in fireworks) as everything ive created so far is to grainy/blurry ???
What is the usual res for Gifs/jpegs etc...

i dont have Firewerks but in general you should work with hi-res images and thene resize it for whatever the purpose is...

GIF is mostly used for short animations without many colors - b&w for example... I do not recommend saving your work with a gif format...
You have to play around with the JPGs encoding quality depending what you want to do (web or print, in which case I wouldnt save in JPG)

for print I usually use 300dpi and for web 72-96 it depends. I do most of my stuff in jpg at a quality of 80-85%. I rarely use .gif since you are limited to 256 colors at most. Which is not good for photos and gradients. But when a transparency is necessary I use it. MAN I cant wait for png to become a standard. If you use a png (which will give jpg quality with transparencies) on the web you will get discoloration.
