Hey everyone!
I am half way through my portofolio, and i am currently thinking of names for it. Today I was brainstorming ideas with my sis. She suggested that I use Hype Interactive. So I got on the computer and started making my logo, this time I really tried to put in effort and thought into the logo design. I uploaded it on logopond, but it really didnt get much feedback since there were hundreds of logos uploaded the same day. I would like to get feedback and critique on the logo, AND i would like to get help on thinking of a new name for my portofolio.
thanks

I like the H.
The dark grey text looks out of porportion, especially the "e" it looks blown up & I'd take off the gradient to see the logo alone.

ya I thought it felt that the grey text was awkward when i put it in since its not aligned with the h but i think ill take it out, for the gradient, it really was supposed to be a reflection. Can you also suggest names for the portofolio also.

"Waseem"
I never heard of it, sounds different & random & like one of the cool names that win the FWA awards. Kill the designs part, names ending with pixels or designs or studios or productions are so played out.

I think the "H" looks really cool! Great work! :D The "ype" after it doesn't fit it, just swirl the eraser around a bit and make it go away. You can put the Hype Interactive in your copyright, and then make it stand out a bit more than it should, so people really looking for your full company name will be able to find it without much trouble. I can't wait to see your site, based off of the great work you've done with your logo.
Also, Waseem would be a good name for your portfolio. I've only met one person in my whole life who had a name even slightly related to Waseem, so it is very original and different from the rest.

thanks for the feedback, I was gonna say before this that I am gonna take out the "ype" after it so its just the logo symbol, or i can write it underneath it. My name is Waseem, and i am using waseemdesign temporarliy so I thought I could make a diffrent name.

is it ok to name your portofolio after your name?

Absolutely. Many excellent portfolios don't even have a "name" - it's just "The Design Portfolio of ..."

i dont elaly get why there would be an m and a w... or those "d"'s on the sides. its cosmetically appealing, but doesnt really make sense.

im just saying what i used to make it, they are just elements and not anything that really needs to be thought about when you look at the logo

I think that it's certainly always a better thing when your logo means something. :P

its a stylized h with a teardrop shape on each opposite corner. BUT when i saw it i thought it said either dwmpype or doop-ype

This is your best yet. I'd just use the H with no tear drops and fix that e ... it looks odd (maybe too big? or perhaps just a different font for the ype in Hype.)

Note the thread that you posted in that centers around me creating a new logo. ;)
Second, if you have abstract shapes, they don't necessarily need to mean anything. However, if you have what appears to be letters, they should make sense.

totally agree. with that being said. a logo doesnt always have to have a meaning, but only if its executed properly.

not saying you ripped it b/c quite frankly i don't really care, but it instantly reminded me of a logo vexir raved about the other day: http://www.kirupa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=227595
anyhow, when i look at your logo, it looks like "M Wype" or maybe "MP Wype". definitely not hype.

well i didnt take it into consideration or thought when I was making my logo, I used 2 "w's" and 2 "d's" to make an "H". I really dont see similarities only that the fact that my logo used letters to make it and that one did too.
Anogar
July 23rd, 2006, 11:35 PM
While I agree that the logos are a little bit similar, it isn't anything I would worry about. :thumb: I do however think that the readability is a little bit compromised by those random little loops that don't mean anything. :puzzle:

those are actually d's that formed a connection between the two w's

Uh. Oh. Hehe. Well, that didn't work even a little bit. :h::huh: They don't look like letters, and if I pretend that they do, it looks like dHpype or dWMpype...
Some letters can be flipped upside down or backwards. Others become a different letter, and that just isn't going to do. :td: You can't flip a lowercase 'd' either direction - you get a 'p' or a 'b'. :sigh:

well the point is not the D or the W its the form of a H
Anogar
July 24th, 2006, 12:17 AM
It's good that you have defined what the point is in your head, but it doesn't come across in the logo.
I like what you've done, but it makes no sense. If you decide to use a typographic logo, it has to make sense, you can't just stick random letters around and then try to tell people that 'oh, those odd little letters aren't the point'.
waseem
July 24th, 2006, 12:18 AM
its not random letters its w and d
Anogar
July 24th, 2006, 12:18 AM
Another problem that you're having is that every other letter is defined by one line, and the 'H' is an outline - which makes it a bit confusing.
Anogar

Wait, what? It's a "W" - I thought it was an "H" in hype?! If it's a "w", why is there an "m" and a "p" on top? It really makes no sense. :P
waseem
July 24th, 2006, 12:24 AM
it forms and H but its made of two w's for waseem which is my name and two d's for design

July 24th, 2006, 12:25 AM
but that doesnt need to be taken into consideration its just hype but if people want to know what it is its just what i discribed

If you're happy with it, then stick with it. It's confusing. :thumb:

I read that post that you replied to on the penguin logo and thought it was funny when someone called you out on ripping off an actual logo. Then, I read your profile and realized that you are only 13. This is pretty impressive work for a 13 year old. Also, if you go with your metaphor with the "w's" your logo spells Wype and I like that.
Anogar
July 24th, 2006, 02:52 AM
I don't think it's supposed to say "wype". :look:

well i just turned 14! :azn: anyways for the wype part I think its getting misunderstood. its actualy HYPE but the "H" is formed by 2 W's and d D's

its actually quite funny, everyone has there own interpurtation of the logo! i think my motto/slogan should be called "misunderstood in the kirupa HOOD"
