Well since my computer crapped itself, I am getting a new motherboard and processor, and my mate is installing it.

He said he will hook me up with an AMD Athlon 3200 64- bit processor.

How well does it match up to the intel clock speeds? Do you think it is a decent processor? I have never owned an amd before :P hehe

Well I know it sure as hell beats my old 2.8 celeron :P- but I just want to know how nice my machine will go :D
heheh 64 bit processor- yay lol but then there is the games....

very good processor... i have the 4000+ so in AMD's standards its only 800- so i'm guess its not that much slower.

BTW when it says 2.0ghz it means nothing really. Mines only 2.4 and it out performs all my friends 2.8's in cpu benchmarks.

Wait another week, AMD prices are dropping like whoa.

Ex. 3400 for $50.

Yeah, you totally don't want that. There are going to be processors that are an absolute ton better for practically nothing next week.

I personally am getting an Intel Core Duo 2 E6700 next week, or perhaps the week after. It outperforms even the very fastest single AMD chip, and is only just over $500.

Intel's cutting prices next week as well, for the core 2 duo release. Too bad Intel's chips are better equipped for the future than amd's chips... AMD 3200 supports DDR ram, which is going to be outdated pretty soon.

:( seems that they are out of stock at the store, so I migh have to get a 64 bit centrino instead. :S are they any good?

No. No no no no no. Wait until the 27th and get a new Core Duo 2 chip. They're cheap, and they're the best chips on the market. Even the $300 middle of the line E6600 smokes the number 1 AMD chip, the Athlon FX-62.

Blah blah blah blah blah ... everything get's outdated at one point or another, it's no point to try and stay up to date with computer technology, just build a computer to your needs and just take it from there. I might say to let it be easily updateable but other than that don't flippin worry about it being outdated. Because in a week it will be anyways. Just get something good and that will be alright for 2 years and then after that I suggest upgrading. Unless you just have oodles of money and can buy a new PC/MAC anytime you want.

64bit Centrino? Nonsense. If you plan to buy a computer and wish to save some money, I'd suggest wait til the Core 2 Duo comes out, then buy the regular Core Duo, their prices will drop like hotcakes.

^agreed...@maxtrosity: what drops faster, "hotcakes" or "whoa"?

Lemme see if I get this right!

A friend will give you a processor, an AMD 3200+, which runs at 2GHz.
The main thing for me is that even tho they pretty much equal the Intel Pentium 4 at the same speed, they run a lot cooler.

I recomend getting a motherboard with a PCI-E slot and a GPU for that slot.
You'll probably be Vista ready after that.

The processor in question is pretty much the same as Intel on those speeds...
I own just that one. Maybe around Xmas I'll make a switch to an X2, and add 1GB of ram to make 1.5GB...

The things people are saying is:
- AMD does still have the best Processors in my opinion, but there are new Intel processors coming out. The Core 2 Extreme are supposed to win over anything that AMD has. The Core 2 line comes in Duo and Extreme, and any of those two are supposed to; according to reviews, totally shatter any oposition from the current AMD line.
These new Intel processors are the reason why AMD is lowering the prices...
That and Intel is also lowering their prices on their current processor line.
- These new processors are out in a week, or so, I believe... AMD prices are coming down then.

Yes, everything is outdated at some point, and when my computer hits that point, I upgrade it or get a new one. It doesn't require "oodles of money". :puzzle:
