After lots of great advice from all who responded I've come up with two more logos over the past week. Very simple and flat (as suggested). Critique away! :)
#1 - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v157/denise032/DS.jpg
and
#2- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v157/denise032/dsquare.jpg
Old logo that received mixed reviews -

Thanks!!:nerd:

I disagree with #2
the font you use for 'denise' in #1 needs more style and ditch the "- -" on either side :thumb::thumb:

# is terrible, glad you ditched the old one.
#1 has potential, but needs work. The middle font doesn't work with the brush/calligraphy type script in the background, and neither, as Faster pointed out, do the dashes. To be honest, just stick Denise under the letters D S and choose a good font for them. I would pick something thin and light but wide and widely spaced.

I agree. I think #1 has potential, but needs some help. I think it would help if you defined, a bit, what your logo is for. Are you going to be doing design work? Embroidering it on a hat so that people know who you are? What exactly are you going for?

just echoning everyone above but number 1 is the winner
remove the --'s and maybe think of adding a tad of colour (a tad mind)
but nice

I don't get why humans need a logo...

Most humans don't. Humans trying to sell something do. :thumb2:

I am doing this for my personal web design porfolio, and I might want to use it on a business card in the near future...
Cool, I'm gonna tweek that first one a bit and repost soon. #2 and the old one are ditched.
Yea on the color, as faster said, this is just black and white, not the actual colors of the logo. That was per a suggestion when I put that old logo up, and I think I understand why. :) Once I get the design locked up I'll add the color.
Thanks every1 once again for your input! U guys rock! :D

the font used for the DS in #1 is the same one i've seen on hundreds of beer league softball jerseys. but i suppose of the three it's the least bad.
