Hey guys. So the situation is, basically, my HD cable box is taking up the HD inputs on my TV. So, rather simple question, is it possible to hook up the 360 to the cable box? Has anyone tried hooking up their 360 to an HD cable box?
If you need more details let me know. Thanks!

Doesn't the 360 cables plug directly to your tv?

Yes, which is what I would do, except the HD ports on my TV are currently being used by my HD Cable box ;)

i'm not sure what plugs are on the back of a cable box.... but jsut look for green blue and red or whatever holes... and plug um in if it fits lol.
if all esle fails, you could get that cable for using the 360 with a computer monitor, most hdtvs have a computer monitor input on the back (like vga i think, dont rember what they're called)

Are you using HDMI or component?
Could you possibly use one for the cable box and the other for the other?

The VGA cable isn't as good quality I think... I don't know. I don't want to spend more money just yet, I blew $600 on the whole system with premium 360 and games and extra controller.
Edit:// Er, I believe I'm using component. Red Green and Blue :P
Edit2:// And I don't know what an HDMI cable is either. Never been too big on A/V.

I use the VGA cable, and it is bangin'! :P
I run 1366x768, fullblown hi-def. Haven't seen a component HD shot yet, so I can't compare, but the VGA cable does the trick for me :)

Do I have to buy it separately? Whats the connector look like?
Edit:// No, I can't use the VGA cable, I'm trying to connect it to a 51" Projection HDTV, not a monitor or LCD TV :P

Im using HD component on my new HD Samsung 81cm LCD and the quality is stunning cant wait for HD DVD!!
I also have the VGA cable for the 360 and have tested it on the tv as well, its not as good as the compnent in my opinion, it seems to look a tad ghoasty like.
Although i am using my computer on this tv now and its SICK!! 81cm comp monitor is nuts!! (& widescreen :P)

I got some bad news for you vex unless you hook up the rgb cables or with vga you wont be able to see your x360 in HD glory, component cables won't do HD (yellow, red and white), I have my x360 hooked up to my 84" projector in full HD Glory and trust me you can see the diffrence even the fonts are sharper and you also get higher resolutions beyond 720 and another plus is you can hook it up to your PC monitor.
Heres the link to the VGA cable if ya need it

Sweet setup grim.
I am not tapping the full potential of my 360 either. I've got it running componnent into an older 43in projection that does not support HD.
I need to get me a new TV soon.

First of all make sure the little switch on the cable is set to HDTV otherwise you aint on HD, second I suggest 720 although I dont know what resolutions your HDTV supports but 720 is almost a standard on most HDTVs, if your HDTV supports 1080i then choose that I'm interested in knowing how the x360 performs on 1080i so let me know if you get it running on 1080i ;)

Yep the little cable is set to HDTV did that the other day, Iv been using 720 for the past few days and its been running fine, just changed it to 1080i and quickly tested NBA Live 06 it still seemed to perform just as good, really couldnt tell a difference, but it was a quick 10minute test.
Put it back on 720 for the moment, seems to be functioning fine :D, really looking forward to HD DVD!!

component cables won't do HD (yellow, red and white)
Isn't that composite, not component? Component is green, blue, and red, and supports up to 1080p.

You are correct - RGB is Component
Oh man thats cool grip - how bright is your projector (lumens)- do you always have to be in the dark? That would make for some pretty ****ty parties

Oh nonono I was using the RGB cables, sorry, I thought those were known as component.. stupid me :P
I just wanted to know if anyone had done it through their HD Cable box or not.
I guess I'll just have to go behind my 51" everytime I want to play my 360 :(

Well I just pulled out my cable box temporarily since I was going to play my 360 and I hooked up the HD, set it to 1080i, and it looks beautiful :) I love it! The XBOX guide looks kind of wierd though, distorted or something, I can't tell. But the games look GREAT. I loooove it.
It takes two seconds to go behind my TV and replugin the cablebox when I'm done, so its not that big a hassle.

Well I use this setup only for my x360 and maybe watching some ppv boxing matches with a few friends over other than that its off most of the time I only play on random weekends so its not a big deal.
