Someone was on my old computer and now she is screwed with spyware/adware.

I am to lazy to format at the moment.

Currently downloading a few programs to clean it.

But it has a new problem...
It wont go to 1024x768 it just turns on and off.
Monitor works fine at 800x600
I have it set to 1280x960 as I type this.

This old monitor looks a little foggy at 1280x960 hence why I want the 1024x768 back.

I have uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them....

Any ideas as to what this might be.
Virus
Video Card
Monitor

I have never had or heard or this problem before.

maybe it was a driver or video card. not sure about it though.
best to try the monitor on a different pc to check if 1024*768 works;)

What is the native resolution of your monitor? Or is it a CRT?

I have not heard of any LCDs that will willingly accept a resolution higher than it is supposed to display.

Sounds like a CRT to me.

Usually, it's a driver problem. Try checking your display property settings to make sure the video card (and perhaps the monitor) drivers are both detected properly. You could try updating. Not sure what the cause would be tho.

I once had a problem where my CRT wouldn't work on 1280x1024 anymore and I was forced to use 1024x768. I later figured out it was Windows ME causing the problem, and there was no fix.

Sorry I did think when typing it that I should make it clear it was a CRT.

I grabbed a old monitor out of the shed and it works fine....

Lession.... CRTs can lose a res and still work at all others...
Seems a little crazy when you think about how they work.

As for the crap that got put on it, Ad-aware and spybot couldn't clean it off...
