how can i set up a CS lan, my computers are sitting right next to each other, can i just connect the cable and start playing? how do you make a server? i cant figure out where to download "hlds". fileshack and fileplanet suck *****. my copy of hlds doesnt work. can some one please help me, i already googled this...

Ok. If you have a router, you are all good. You download hlds from Steam. Just open up steam and scroll to the bottom. It's there.

Calm down..., if a thread has been moved then it means that it was posted in the wrong section. The current one is about computers or at least something related to it so it belongs in the Computers & Games/Tech forum.

Anyway. I believe you have to set up a local area network at first. You have to run the Network Setup Wizard (under control panel) on all computers and set it all up so all the computers are on the same workgroup and can communicate with each other. (Find the "View workgroup computers" under "My network places" or something similar to determine that)

You can google this for more detailed information.

actually to do a lan is quite simple. Just get two cords a switch/router and plug them up if you want internet then plug internet into the wan.

If that doesnt work set the computers IP's by hand. 0.1 and 0.2 this way. Also on slower switchs and cheapo ones you have to set IP or it tends to lag some times.

You need a duplex ethernet or something to connect two computers together.

yah, i got the cable, and i will run the wizard under control panel, but do i have to do anything else to play CS?

nopers, if your using CS:S you dont even have to download HLDS, you just run a server from insdie the game

Probably late, but you can just hit "New Game" and it'll create on and the other users just go to the "LAN" tab and connect.

Also, if your really lazy, try a program called Hamachi... It basically imitates a lan between your computer and the other computers in the room, they just need access to the internet and to be in the game room your created on hamachi.... However, you need to pay to get more than 10 players on the same server though... Otherwise works great
