Hey guys,
Once again looking for some good crits (i.e. good = harsh) on this basic html site.

My Design (http://people.bu.edu/eg/temp/)

The Old Design (http://www.paaction.org)

Thanks!

p.s. no working links yet.

Put the disclamer in the footer and extend the page down but leave the bottom margin.

It is better than the old one :)
But get rid of that background gradient, it is awful ;)

Nicer than the old one - the blues are a bit... blue(?) - and I'd assume that the rather scratchy looking outline is the state?

It's alright, here's my thoughts:

- Don't like the background gradient...i'd change that.
- There's a light white outline around the deer at the bottom, looks badly done.
- The logo at the top could do with a bit of work, it's a bit plain.
- I find the colours a bit strange, perhaps less harsh colours would be better.

Overall it seems a bit bland, could be alot better but does have potential.

It's a hell of alot better than the old site tho :moustache

Thanks for the ideas!
I'll certainly address all of them tomorrow at some point :)

Except the one about the disclaimer.... that disclaimer is a stupid automatically added link that Boston University puts in anything that's uploaded to their server. The actual website wont be on BU's server, so I wont have to bother.

If anyone has any ideas about how to get rid of the disclaimer, let me know!!!

I don't like the visited state ofthe links.
The top left does not line up with the rest (it kinda hangs out a little)
And I don't like that background color.

a couple of things i would consider changing:

that blue background is too strong.
page looks whack in FF. hmm...well, it did the first few times i visited.
not sure what the deal is with the deer. doesn't fit in.
pull content titles closer to content text
change link hover bg color
make an actual page for contact. not just an e-mail link which you don't warn the user about.
use em, not px for font size.
to be honest, i don't like it. but just fixing the background would really, really help. i've seen very few political websites that look halfway decent, so i'm not really expecting much.

what i like is that everything is straight forward. the nav is simple. sections have clear titles.

If you vistied the site before (like a week ago) you'll probably need to clear the cash or reload a few times because the CSS changed...
Can you guys post screen shots of what it looks like in your FF, because it looks fine in my FF... I just want to get a closer idea of what you're seeing.

Thanks!
