Hi everyone
I want to learn Animation
I know Flash and Actionscript

I was going through this tutorial
http://kidzdom.com/tutorials/

Can someone tell me few good tutorials for character animation in Flash
I have the story in my mind...

I want to reach the level like this animation
http://www.markfiore.com/animation/cut.html
How much time that will take?

Thanks

well here's a link to a video (thats about an hour!) by a pro character animator that takes you through the whole process - it's not the greatest thing but it's still an interesting watch and you pick up some good tips.

http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/animate_character.html

other than that a lot of it is about diving in and learning from mistakes. its hard to accept that, but you'll get there. You learn pretty quickly about what doesn't work, what things are really hard to do... It can be helpful to look at other flash animation frame by frame if you can. Here's what i do. Find an animation that still has all the playback options on right click. Disable "play" so it's frozen, then you select "forward" from the right click menu and it steps one frame... keep doing it and you'll see how they've done their motion. It's really interesting to learn how they do complex stuff.

how ironic my idea for an animation forum was turned down- now we have a sudden boom!

Hey mate. I am going to write a few tutorials in the coming weeks if I can get some time :D What kind of things do you want to learn? :)

A boom? It was 1 guy. Not really something I'd call a boom.

52,579 members...even 100 isnt a boom. We have like 5 people requesting it lol :sure:.

You know the few of you seem like you really want it, why not take it...make tutorials yourself, ask tons of questions you need answered (not useless ones). Get every member you can and do something animation related and start a riot...

You have the freedom to do that, if you want the forum badly show something to prove it. I dont think this big community just hands out free forums without seeing if its necessary or not. Id be glad to support yall but none of you seem to be doing anything about it.

Thats too bad you let something stop you. With all the time you spend posting you can do somethin else with it...start a big animation battle or something...the best walk cycle or somethng (that sounds like a kick arse idea too)

hahahah well I just post things between renders and things- So I don't really have enough power- but eh I might get a nice animation battle going. Heheh but I don't know if I will participate right away- but creating and judging yeah I could :)

great idea reef :P

wow that's really cool. I think it should be frame by frame animation.

btw for original queries, there are different ways to animate in flash. Either you solely depend on flash or you could draw first and then trace them in flash. For tracing you have 2 options:
1. Brush tool (use only if you have tablet pen)
2. pen/pencil tool

hey btw, check out chris georginas (i think thats how you spell it) for some flash animation stuff. www.mudbubble.com (http://www.mudbubble.com)

hes got a lot of cool stuff there. there is also a "breeze" on macromedia.com somewhere that he did. Awsome tutorial on character animation in flash.

links already been posted...i need sleep

that mudbubble suggestion was cool:)
the best way i think would be to watch traditionally made animations/cartoons:)
disney has some of the best;)

There is a book called the animation survival kit. Get it. Also I am actually thinking on taking some classes at "Animation Mentor". Might do you some good to get some actual training from a professional.

I might be taking some classes there soon

Only thing is that they use maya. pffft

Yeah but that will only help if you get to work with good fella animators or some good knowledgable senior animator, otherwise bang your head on the drawing table :toad:

I am starting off with some simple animation but I dont have damn animation desk... I have to build one myself or using someone's help.. Hey DM can you give me some snapshot of your animation desk to just get rough idea...

I wanted to know how those peg bars work actually on the desk (I know what they do but havent seen working with desk). I appreciate any help on this. Thanks.

And hey I got an idea about animation battle.

YEah man I got an idea covered- was thinking a 10 second audio track that people have to animate to :D!

Yeah man I'll get a show of the desk. I got mine custom made- cause my animator buddy can hook me up with things. The thign is pegs are worth some crazy price like 50 bucks here because noone in australia makes them!- and they need to be accurate to fit the paper!

Yeah i'll grab mum's camera and get you a shot :D (use msn or something? add me) :)

Hey thanks mate :) I have already added you in MSN. I will pm you my email id.

between sound track idea is cool too. But I think 10 seconds gonna take a bit long. What would be the fps, if we animate on 12s it will be 120 frames.

Pasquale
July 2nd, 2006, 02:22 AM
well 24fps man of course- and then animating on 12s as a standard animation flows :)

10 seconds aint too bad? :P

I hope so... Otherwise for traditional animators it will be long to get that much time.

Pasquale
