Saw this as a question in Flash help. Some guy wanted to know how to get the 3d Mapped cube.. I went to see what he was talking about, but ended up looking at this site forever.
I've been to 2Advanced and thought they were pretty good... but I think this site has them beat. Very professional looking, very classy, very stylish, navigatable. I love it all... Oh! Except the naval piercing that keeps appearing. They could do without that.
What do you guys think?

Pretty fast, very pretty. The name pretty much sucks (this is not web2.0), though.
Also, the AE animations are all templates. :P
Edit: I'm referring to the Profile one.
The cube also has some aliasing problems…
Nevertheless, it's quite nice. :thumb:

Hmmm, not bad, a bit too templateMonsterish for my liking. and whats with that custom cursor. I never like a custom cursor unless its helping me navigate and experience the site.
And as for beating 2A?? not a chance...

simplistik, welcome to the kirupa forums!!! please remember to SEARCH before starting a thread and put your code in
hello world! tags.
seriously though, the site is nice. it's kind of templatemonsterish, but that's not always a bad thing. it's easy to navigate and is lightning quick, which is where flash sites fail 90% of the time.

What is everyone's fixation with 2Advanced? I mean, it's a great page, sure, but it's outdated at this point, there are loads of better ones. :-/

There's no fixation... he was responding to the first poster who said he feels this site is better than 2A.

Its nice, but in my eyes, its not that amazing, the square thing isnt original, there are several places with similar stuff, Has some nice but I still prefer 2A and I am no random guy that goes with the croud, I admire 2A not worship them :D, Even 2A is no the best.
I think one of the first sites to incorporate a 3D object which spins with your mouse is www.xgenstudios.com

No, I mean, everyone compares things to 2A... a little odd to me. I was referring to the OP.

Honestly I would say 2A really took web design to a higher level at a very crucial time. At the time when they were leading the industry web design was looked at like something that anyones cousin timmy could do on his 399.99 dell with a the free software that came with it. They dispelled that, and I think they are still living off the laurels of being a pioneer. They by far are no longer (to me) in the top 10 of studios. But they have top 10 clientele. I think thats the fixation. The pack has caught up with them faster than the world catching up to the US in basketball. They actually lose alot of bids for jobs (I have insider info).
Now on topic
I like that site alot. :beam:

Well put DDD. I think we need to move past our fascination with them, they were pioneers, and they've fallen a bit behind.

I don't think they've fallen behind per se, but the market is just flooded with very very talented designers and studios now, unlike it was 5 years ago.

Guess it depends on your definition of behind. If you used to be a revolutionary pioneer, running way out ahead of the pack, and now you're surrounded by other studios, and some of them are running ahead of you, I think you've fallen relatively behind, eh? ;)

2A was a reference point in flash design. Sure many studios are around now, that's the point..there are lots of them and till one will get to be a reference point nowadays as 2A was back then, let them give to Caesar what is Caesar's. Just my 2 cents.
Now about this site..I think it looks clean. I don't wanna bash it or anything, but I think it looks clean in the templatemonster style of clean. It lacks personality somehow.

2A is great but their fonts are always small which I don't like. :bored:
webdesign20.com also nice but how did they define "next gen web design"?

Meh... This site is pretty, it is interesting, it is unique, and its all good.
I'd say 9/10. But as an avid 2A fan, I gotta say, this doesn't quite add up.
Here's my 2 cents as to why a lot of people are fanatical about 2A...
When I visit their website, I don't just drool over their incredible application of motion graphics... I get an emotional connection. They are really good at creating immersive interfaces and immersive themes that just pull you in. You can't help but be in awe at what they will come up with next, because its an experience. I don't know how else to explain it, they just infuse their work with soul. Sure, there's lots of talented designers out there, and maybe they are better than 2A in terms of graphics, or layouts, or CMS, or whatever... but I have yet to be struck on an emotional level from any other studio.
Personally speaking, when they (2A) were transitioning from v4 to v5, I checked every day anticipating being blown away yet again. And the great thing about them is their ability to change. v5 Attractor is not the 'techy,' 'everything moves in a cool way' site. It is actually somewhat boring if it weren't for the awesome matte paintings (which were heavily influenced by Dylan Cole ;) ) but they have managed to push the envelope yet again, this time with usability. Read their case study on V5 Attractor if you haven't already. Truly impressive. Sorry to hijack the thread.

2A is good and did great things, but I have to agree that there is other stuff out there that is great too. I've always been a big fan of Billy Bussey's (http://www.billybussey.com) work. He does some great things with 3D..
Unfortunately his site is still incomplete.

webdesign20.com could use some improvements. the click and throw for the cube does NOT work perfectly. if you look at more of their work it ALL looks like template monster sites.
i know 2A are fuggin' awesome, and i would never deny their talents. i just think their use of the sci-fi background and futuristic temple of doom, pyramid deal extremely cheezy.
they are a design firm, not a trekkie hub. the backgrounds look like something out of Stargate SG-1 the series or something. Big Fat Stinky Cheese.
