i was just wondering, do any of you have tattoos? what's your overall feeling on body art? do you think it's cool, or not?
check mine out by clicking the attachment below.

I've got one. :) I think most people have seen it already, but just for the record...

I think you can go overboard with tattoos, but if that's what you want, then no harm done. I always wanted one, so I got it done a few years ago. :)

My parents just rolled their eyes. :P
I've had some henna ones done before which were fun - I once had this Chinese dragon going all the way down and round my arm. :)

i want to do the henna thing but i don't think it would go over well at my office.

whats hena? my view is that hey can be cool, but when you get old and 'saggy' they will look like crap. but i wouldnt mind a barcode on the back of my neck...

If having a tatoo would not influence someone not to give me a job or to think some wrong things about me i would get a tattoo right above my left eye something like the xmens character known as bishop

That's kinda why mine is hidden under normal circumstances - doesn't show when I'm wearing business dress. :)

right shoulderblade..
http://pathofaith.digitalrice.com/temp/back.jpg
i also have a small one which i can't post here, and i have a big one in progress, but no one gets to see till its done. heehee.
and i used to have a bunch of piercings. i took all of them out except my fav.. this one..
http://pathofaith.digitalrice.com/temp/nape2.jpg
i also have some kanji scarification on my arm, but i don't have a pic right now.
i think body art is great if you wanna do it. personally i think ppl who get stuff just because its cool, or everyone else is doing it are being stupid, but who am i to judge? body art is very important to me.. heres my philosophy: my body was a gift from god and it is beautiful, and i love it. body art can be beautiful. and by practicing it, you are not mutilating blah blah, but adorning the temple of your soul. cuz if i find it aesthetically pleaseing, or i feel good about it, well then, its not bad at all. i used to have about 24 piercings i think, and everything, all of them and my tattos, all were significant, all marked a turning point or a certain event in my life. it's a very spiritual process for me. the process is quite altering, and was usually more of a factor in me getting something then the results.
so body art for me is more of a 'performance art' if you will then anything. a performance where the veiwer is the actor as well.
See Fakir Musafar for more in depth details. :)

ouch! didnt that one on you neck hurt? anyway, i dont think doing it to 'go with the flow' or 'i did it cause i wanna be goth' kinda thing is cool. but for a deep reason like yours, go for it!

lol... "i did it to be goth" *chuckles*
yeah, it hurt, but actually, not as bad as what you would think. i think other things hurt worse. it was definitely odd, to say the least. hah. people ask me what it felt like, and i'm like, a needle sliding trough your skin. what else could i say? :beam:

golgi - I really like the colours of the tattoo on your shoulderblade, very nice design also. What exacly is "kanji scarification" I am curious.
Kit - very nice tattoo as well :) Like I said, I hope you dont have any plans for children in the next little while or your lettering is going to look like the ink started to run.... ;)

thanks. the pics are terrible and blurry and stuff, but the guy really did a great job. and i've had it for years now and never had to get it retouched due to fading or blurriness. i was a little worried, cuz i designed it, and when he transferred it, i was afraid it would be different, but i really was amazed, he did a great dup.
and i forgot to mention, in case anyone doesn't know what it is, it's a ouroboros (http://www.dragon.org/chris/ouroboros.html) in the form of a fish.
now, onto the other bit...
Learn what Kanji is (http://www.kanjisite.com/html/wak/wak4.html)

Yikes - scarification is what I thought it was. I dont think I would be brave enough to get something like that done. I mean the fact that the person doing it to you doesnt have complete control over what the design will look like when all is said and done kind of scares me. At least with Tattoos you know what your getting.

lol... i think with tattoos, your knowledge of the result depends on your sobriety level. i woke up once with a peace sign tattooed on my bum. all i have to say is thank god its gone. see.. it was fine, except one side looked like a squeeshed cheerio.

my arm... it healed perfectly IMO, i hear what your sayin sureshot, i was a bit apprehensive about how it would turn out, but it was fun all the same. i'm a klutz, so i get injured a lot, and i like the way my skin heals, so i was pretty confident the results would be good. plus the guy i went to is one of the most renowned "scarificators" in the US. heehee.

Hmm... thats kinda kewl, but How do they do it, do they burn the pattern or cut it with a scalpel-like tool? and have you ever thought that maybe when you get old you might not want a tattoo or scar like that?
Illuminae
May 5th, 2003, 10:40 AM
hey. yeah, that was done with a scalpel, two different ones actually, different shapes for different shape cuts. people do brand and burn to acheive scarification, but it's more risky, both for your health, and the quality of the final result. plus, i don't like getting burned, i do that enough when i blow glass..hehhehe.
as for when i get older, that is a good question, and one my parents love to bring up VERY often...lol.. but here is my answer, to them, to you, to the world...
when i do body mods, it's something utterly spiritual. one motivation is of course the aesthetic aspects, but it runs deeper with me. when i do this stuff, it's a passage into an altared state of consiousness, and i dig that. each tatt, each piercing, marks something very personal in my life, and reflects not only the trials i have endured, but the fabric of who i am. like my ankle tatt. my mom and i actually have matching ones, and it is a symbol of not only our very close bond, but something we went through together, and the triumph we had through eachothers strength. and my scar.. (which btw the characters mean passion, {not the sexy kind, the kind like zeal, or intensity}). i got that after something personal again, and it was a huge body mod to get.. but see, the process in itself was a trial in a way cuz it was super painful, but it symbolized the tradgedy i had overcome, and my strength. so whenever i think of it, i am rememinded of my humanity, and the bad thing that happend, so i am humbled, and also i am reminded of my endurance, and my faith, and my overcoming it all, so that i am happy, and confident, and even more trusting in fate and god and myself.
so basically, the meaning behind the pieces is so important that i don't think i could ever get tired of them, because if i did, in essence, i would be getting tired of myself. hehehe.
(sorry to make you read all that, i babble a lot about stuff)

I have a tribal art piece on my right arm that represents an eagle, I have a tribal piece across my back that represents a bat. On my right calf I have My moms tat (memorial piece) its a sillouette of a witch sitting on the number four that I encased in a tribal art piece.
I also have both my nipps pierced.

hahahah - I'm glad my mom didnt get that option from the doctor when I had the ol' snip back in the day :)
Those images of your arm look prety cool golgi - they turned out great, espeailly the top one - I really like the look of it. Not enough to ever get one mind you, but they do look great :) I really would like to get a tattoo, especailly one that my girl and I could get together. They dont have to be the same but maybe just link in some way. I know it sounds stupid to get one with another person but it's been 5 years and I know neither of us is going anywhere... ;)
She actually did the same as you in getting a tattoo with her mother when she was 16. Her mother and her got the exact same one in the same spot - it's really kind of cool how it represents so much to them.

May 5th, 2003, 11:14 AM
thanks! and hey, it doesnt sound stupid at all, if ya know you'r gonna be together, then go for it. it will be very beautiful for you two!

hahah that is funny....
speaking of tattoo pain...it's not as bad as people make it out to be. for the first hour or so it hurts a lot but then afterwards all the endorphins in your brain start kicking in and you have this incredible numbness to pain. It's great!! You're like "well he's poking my skin with a needle, but it doesn't hurt that bad".
or maybe i just have a huge pain tolerance.

golgi- I whole heartedly agree that all men (who can pull it off) should have their ******* pierced.
As for tattoes they are probably the greatest form of personal expression that I can think of.
I have a few! And one more that has been drawn for quite some time just no good place to put it!
The only thing I hate is when people have no idea what they want, pick something in five minutes and get it for the hell of it!

I love tattoos with a passion. I only have 3 at the moment. One on each upper part of my arms and one on my forearm. The Lion is my newest one. It’s just over a year now. I fully intend on getting more. I have done a sweet remake of the Life/ Death tattoo [says Life one way up and Death the other way up] but I’m not too sure as I think it might end up being one of those tatts that loads of people get.
Golgi, I love that branding!!!
This pic was taken 4hrs after I had it done.

golgi,
I have the same problem. I know I’m going to end up like a
sketchbook one day. I designed 2 of the 3 myself and the lion one is part of our family crest but I had it shaded instead of a solid color. I know I’ll be getting a few more by the end of the year.

I got my first one when i was 17, it is persian writing (Farsi) that says "Pride." My loose represenation was, to remind me of only doing things I would be proud of. It's on my right arm.
#2 Is about half an inch big, on my right Ankle just under the little knobbly thing. It says C 1981 (Pretend the C is the copyright symbol)
#3 is DUDE on my back. It's on my lower back and is about 5 inches wide. Yes I've seen the movie, and yes I got it after the movie, but it was only because I was upholding my word on a bet. A friend called once from a tatoo parlor and asked what I thought he should get. I said, if you get sweet, I'll get dude. He got his... so I later got mine.
#4 isn't actually on my body yet. I have the design for it but it goes from shoulder blade to shoulder. When I find a sketch ot if I will put it up.
