I have freaking dial-up....so surfing is a ho....

Hehe np dude. :)

Just a few thing i noticed recently

You allow your flash site to scale when you maximise your browser, don't do that, you lose some quality in your bitmaps!!

:: How big is the swf file? ur sure you compressed it with some jpeg compression in flash?

that might be the reason why it taking a while for people to view the website.

jkm
May 5th, 2003, 10:58 PM
ah ha ! That was a test .....and you passed !
Just kiddin'
No compression.. I was so eager to post, I forgot to tie up loose ends. Good compression number? Like 75?
Good catch :nerd:

.soulty
May 5th, 2003, 11:00 PM
the smallest size in kb with no visual lose in the image,so play around with the percentages, press the test button to check the image file size and quality preview in the little window, i usually stick to 80 %. What size is the actual bitmap? in pixels?

monark110
May 5th, 2003, 11:08 PM
wow!
the interface looks killer!!!
can't wait to see it when it's done!

jkm
May 5th, 2003, 11:08 PM
After compressing to 80% The movie file is 78.2 KB
image itself is 1024 x 768--------96 dpi <square>
bit depth=32

.soulty
May 5th, 2003, 11:19 PM
you know jkm, if you started working with 72 dpi and created the image at 1024 X 768 it would of been smaller in file size.

But 78.2 is ok, for a big image like that.

::: 72 dpi, is the resolution for on screen graphics.

jkm

Learning curves.... That's why I got you peeps. I'm a rookie my friend. Thanks for observing so closely. Okay, I reposted ...give it a test run...It should load pretty quick. Did I shrink the image itself too much? I plan to add to it, but it did look pretty sweet sitting alone filling the window...

:hangover:

.soulty
May 5th, 2003, 11:26 PM
yeah true, it did look nice, big and all, but you can add other elements under that now, and its sharper in quality

jkm
May 5th, 2003, 11:31 PM
Good point... Did you see a big difference in load time?

.soulty
May 5th, 2003, 11:31 PM
Ive got cable, but it was quicker.

I'm on dial up and had no problems with the load time at all. I'm not a great fan of that style of interface though.. If EG were here he'd probly say it's too dark and the font your using isn't very clear...

Dave

jkm
May 6th, 2003, 08:18 AM
That's cool to know that the load time wasn't bad. I will take what you said into consideration. It has ran through my mind to lighten the image up, or to use a white background. My plans are to lighten the site up with new elements and effects. I think it should level itself in the end. Thanks for the input. =)

have you compressed the interface image?? it takes a while to load :-\

jkm
May 9th, 2003, 10:36 AM
Okay, compressed now... I also got rid of the text...
:sigh: What do you all think?

saurabh
May 9th, 2003, 10:41 AM
i really liked your design. everything seems so realistic. can u tell me how you got such realistic image ? any help would be greatly appreciated !!

.soulty
May 9th, 2003, 10:42 AM
dont know about those mouse overs, why dont you do some really nice rollover effects ! interface looks interesting :!: :beam:

jkm
May 9th, 2003, 10:47 AM
<saur> Photoshop 7, with plug-ins (KPT, Flaming pear)
Thanks for the compliment:)

<soul> ok... rollovers can you please elaborate? And do you think the glowing metaballs look okay?

I JUST updated... rollovers still the same?

http://www.jmkm.com

.soulty
May 9th, 2003, 10:51 AM
the buttons, they dont have to be just changing colour, you could have like a little movie on each one, something like a panel fading in behind the type to say it selected.

The glowing thing is alright , but if its going to be static (not be animated) then i think it has no need in your design.

.soulty
May 9th, 2003, 10:51 AM
remember to design things for a reason not only because they look cool :)

jkm
May 9th, 2003, 10:55 AM
Gotcha !
The metaballs will be changing colour...?
And I am trying to figure out where to insert a logo.
I also think the interface will "unfold" on open.
The navigator will "drop" and the metaballs will then "pop out" from the nav....?

.soulty
May 9th, 2003, 10:58 AM
Draw the idea down with some variations , its the best way to go. i have so many drawing before i create my final animation.

jkm
May 9th, 2003, 10:58 AM
saurabh----Just stick around the forum and you will get to where you want to be...Submit your stuff.. No question is stupid...And LISTEN TO SOULTY!!!! lol

jkm

Okay, simple but effective. (I think)
Ditch the blue color change?
I am not a Flash pro YET...
But I am reading:smirk:

http://www.jmkm.com

.soulty
May 9th, 2003, 11:31 AM
here ya go, a little example of what i mean by roll over effect.

;)

.soulty
May 9th, 2003, 11:34 AM
you know what would be really cool, that those glowing spheres would change tints depending on where your mouse is !!!!:!:

::like subtle not very saturated colours.

jkm
May 9th, 2003, 12:09 PM
New rollovers.... I think they set the whole thing off....
Thanks for the file...
I will have to become a Flash Master to be able to to the color tint thing....
That is a great idea tho... I have already built green and red images for the different glows...The images look pretty good.. When I apply them, it glares the applied colour off the rest of the image. That looks pretty sweet...
http://www.jmkm.com/

.soulty
May 9th, 2003, 12:11 PM
yeah i can go with that, those mouse overs are better :beam:
the color tint isent too hard, but yeah leave that for another project, get this one together and do some more fancy stuff for when you know flash a little better :)

.soulty
May 9th, 2003, 12:13 PM
Button are much better !!! ;) looking good :smirk:

Jubba
May 9th, 2003, 12:13 PM
i still am unable to load the site... using either link... doesn't come up for me..

jkm
May 9th, 2003, 12:18 PM
Jubba, I dunno man.
:sigh:

That's tripped out ! You have NEVER gotten it up?

jkm
May 9th, 2003, 12:19 PM
Thanks Soulty :P

Jubba
May 9th, 2003, 12:20 PM
never once. it keeps saying "CAnnot display page"

jkm
May 9th, 2003, 12:22 PM
So what about the glowing spheres?
I like them, but without me taking a crash course on Flash (like I did Photoshop) lol
They will just kinda sit there....:q:

.soulty
May 9th, 2003, 12:23 PM
well , like i said if you havent got a need for them , get rid of them.

Jubba: what browser are you using?

Jubba
May 9th, 2003, 12:23 PM
IE

.soulty
May 9th, 2003, 12:24 PM
click on JM's website button under his post, maybe that will work :-\

Jubba
May 9th, 2003, 12:29 PM
nope. I tried it in three different browsers. I think it might have something to do with the network here at school... I'm going to have to wait until i get home to view it.

.soulty
May 9th, 2003, 12:31 PM
well JM , the mouse overs are nice, but not sure about the click state, why dont you keep it animated, instead of going static with the mouse down state. you can use the fla i provided and enter another frame label called "down" and put a animation on that, then on the mc

on(release)
gotoAndPlay("down");

saurabh
May 10th, 2003, 07:44 AM
thanks for the suggestion. i would really take it in mind. besides, i think that hanging around would expand my horizons of thinking :)

saurabh
May 10th, 2003, 07:58 AM
a quick question.... i have tried many times to design something on photoshop n import it onto flash.. the quallity just doesnt seem to be the same. it isnt as clear like urs is. why is that ? that is not gif is it ?

jkm
May 10th, 2003, 10:31 AM
What I did was when my image was completed in photoshop, I hid my background layer and exported as png 24. (make sure the transparency box is checked if you have tranz layers) Then I imported in and compressed the image in Flash. My interface is only around 160k...
For more options and probably a better answer, post your question in the "Drawing and Design" kirupaForum.
-------Good Luck-----

jkm
May 10th, 2003, 10:36 AM
Hey Soulty, the down state is fixed.... Man, I stayed up reading Flash books all night. It will take some time to get the transitions I want.
I think the rollovers look sweet tho...http://www.jmkm.com

Hey Jubba, I forgot to tell you that http://www.jmkm.com
and http://www.jmkm.net are the same thing

Maybe you can access through:
http://www.jmkm.net

.soulty
May 10th, 2003, 11:07 AM
did you leave the image uncompressed again after your update!!! :-\

jkm
May 10th, 2003, 11:58 AM
It is compressed... 167k
long load time obviously....hmmm:sigh:

.soulty
May 10th, 2003, 12:03 PM
ok saw it now, lol. Whats your frame rate, the mouse overs you had before were much faster and smoother, these seem to be a bit slow

jkm
May 10th, 2003, 12:25 PM
Good catch.. yea, I dropped the frame rate down to 10 (for some reason) it is back to 20 (like it was) I also re-compressed...

kool, nice down animation, little scale on the animated rectangles. Keep going !! lol ;)

jkm
May 10th, 2003, 12:35 PM
Thanks
:)
It is transition/content time now, and I'm stuck....
I want to complete this, but I gotta study first...
It would be a shame to waste a good interface...
Any suggestions?

.soulty
May 10th, 2003, 12:38 PM
read , read, read, search, read, tutorials, read, search, tutorials, draw, draw, read, ,draw :)

jkm
May 10th, 2003, 12:44 PM
LOL
I keep wanting to use Swish V.2 for the transitions... I own Flash MX,Director 8.5, Swift 3d v.3, and Cinema 4D, but I know nothing about any of them. I want to use the "good stuff" (not Swish)
If I let myself use Swish, my transitions will be sloppy and very limited...BUT I would be done ! LOL
I think I will uninstall Swish and study.....:thumb: :sigh:

.soulty
May 10th, 2003, 12:46 PM
what you mean by tranisitions?

jkm
May 10th, 2003, 01:47 PM
How the content will appear when the links are clicked...:beam:
