Before upgrading my Pc I whant to know somethings.
I whant to upgrade to P4. 2.3 mhz and many people say P4 dos not get hot fast but AMB processor get Hot faster than P4 !
AMD is cheaper but P4 is not !
-What is the different between Pentium and AMD ?
-Shall I wait for Pentium 5 ? is it the same prise ?
-If Pentium 5 comes do the prise of P4 gos down ?
-When shall P5 come out ?
I dont know what to buy `?
Thank you for the help.

what i've got to say is processor speed now are way far ahead of all the other parts of your computer... If you upgrade your PC make sure you put LOTS of ram, consider switching to 512m or more, and get a decent 3d card, either for 3d working or games...
I personnaly like AMDs better because I hate intel and they always make crap, processors that go half as fast as they claim...
If you upgrade the WHOLE computer than make sur you get a large screen too (if you do designing stuff) i personnaly have a 21" screen and im really happy even though it did cost lots of $$$$....

It all depends on how much you are willing to pay for your upgrade. The newer Pentium 4 processors are by far better than what AMD can offer. Faster bus speeds and faster Rambus ram ensure that more demanding apps/games work well.
For casual use, I strongly doubt you'll see any major difference when picking either one. As mlk mentioned, ram is key - get as much as you can!
For some benchmarks, try this one: http://www.anandtech.com/cpu/showdoc.html?i=1810&p=18 The intel is marginally better than the amd in most non-business oriented tests.
Cheers!

"They" did find out that P4 3.0 have a bug ! :trout:
This is improtant becouse Im having hard times here !
Im afraid that if I Upgrade I get a slow machine and many bugs like what I have here right now !
The pc Im using is a P2 350 mhz !
192 ram and its very good I used it to creat mostly everything !
from 3d to programming...
I have Geforce 2 Mx 100/200 !
I will keep my CD- Disk - secreen- but
I will change tower, motherbord + soundcard, Prosessor, Ram to 512 and I will upgrade ram every month !
Please tell me more !
Thank you very much! :)

Another thing, check out the RAM speed (i think it's either 66hz, 100 hz or a 133Hz) because if you dont have the same speed for every bar of ram it wont fit..
I really dont know about processors though, but I think anything over a ghz and a 1/2 is fine... Processors are developped much faster than all the rest...
if you are into game take care of a good sound card to... with a good dvd player you've got your own home cinema :beam:

I recommend AMD over Pentuim any day, just make sure you get a good cooling system if possible a watercooling one works wonders, and get at least 1 gig o ram
Hey Kirupa man why would you recommend a processor thats better under non business oriented tests?? I mean i use my computer mainly for business not just for show know what i mean??

I'm an AMD man myself. If you're worried about heat, don't. With a decent heatsink and fan you shouldn't have any problems... the new Athlon XP's and most motherboards also have a heat shutoff feature that'll power everything down before anything gets damaged.
My 1.63 ghz athlon xp 1800+ can easily outperform p4 chips up to 2 ghz in benchmarks, keep in mind it's not only the Mhz that you should look after.

AMD is cheap and good !
Every PC have a cooler right ? => see my tower information "link above"
Have you guys checkt the link above about the pc !
Thanx for the usefull information !
Now I dont know what to realy buy Pentium or AMD !
Im not looking for a advanced maskine I dont whant to pay that much for it !
I whant to know how many hours I can work with my AMD prosessor so that the AMD prosessor will get very hot ?
6 H
2 - 3 H
`? how many hours so it get Hot...etc ?
If it gets hot fast then >I will not buy like this type becouse its bad like after 6 or 5 hours its bad !
Thanx

I like AMD. Thats just me. The new P4s with the higher bus speeds are looking nice though, and the hyperthreading is a treat. Of course if you google amd vs intel in terms of hate and sucks, you get about 5 times as many for intel ;)

Us computer geeks can be so mean :)
I personally like AMD as well. I know that the new Intel's are supposed to be really fast but when you look at price comparison within the two - AMD is by far the better choice IMO. As everyone has said. You need at least 512 when it comes to ram. The more the better.

May 5th, 2003, 09:30 AM
hehehe !
Okay If I buy a AMD with 2.0 + mhz
I need at least 512 mb ram ! I will right this note too !
I will not buy the "latest" P4 with 3.0 mhz I whant cheaper !
like p4 2.3.

Ok !
I asked a PC "man" He told me :-
-If you buy a cheap thing then its bad something is bad in it ! "sometimes or most" thats AMD ! :(
-If A thing is high prise then its good and will last long ! = Intel P4. :)
I got worrid ! why is AMD cheap becouse there is a bad thing in it ?
:trout:
Pentium is good becouse it wins allwas other AMD. AMD is in the back allways and Pentium is creating better and better every time !
Im using Pentium !
Tell me what you think ?
teed
May 8th, 2003, 11:37 AM
AMD ois cheaper because it does not put as much money into advertising and security actually built into the chip, which also sends them to the back because they never spend to much money on the advertising side, i personally have the AMD 2400+ and it is real nice and i also got a pentium 2.3 ghz and there is no way it beats the amd in speed maybe in security but this takes up speed in the processor i say go with the AMD 2400+ and get a ****e load of ram :)

I whant to know why you guys realy like AMD becouse Im a Microsoft user and I like Microsoft but I like Pentium and AMD And Im having trouble finding the right one for my pc !
If you hate Microsoft becouse they are with Intel and AMD is not thats out of the *
Whats wrong with Pentium and wrong in AMD and good in these ?

hahahha thats funny i wonder why he said AMD is best for games, maybe its because the processing speed and ram speed is better and because it renders 3D objects faster, AMD is better and faster than any Pentium chip except the xeon processor from pentium IMHO

My opinion:
If price doesn't matter go Intel,
if it does go AMD, its more bang for your $
Ive got a Athlon 1.8 and a pentium 4 2.4 both do enough for most of the stuff I ever use.
Millad
May 9th, 2003, 07:32 AM
hmm !
Well if you have Athlon 1.8 and P4 2.4 ---> nothing is diferent !
P4 is high price and AMD is low price so AMD is good becouse its low price but same preformants and speed...etc `????????????????????????????????????????????????? ?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ??? :trout:
JuXtA
May 9th, 2003, 07:46 AM
I didnt say there wasnt a difference... obvisouly a 1.8 athlon isn't going to be as powerful as a 2.4 pentim 4, expecially with the difference in video card that i have. But for what I use it for (some programming, graphics and games) there both great.
I would go athlon but thats because im cheap ;)
My opinion: for the average user, hardware is much more powerful than most software requires...

If i were you and I'm nor... I would buy a P4 processor, I had an AMD xp 2200+ or some bull**** like that. Anyways, the processor fan was gone for max 1-2 seconds and that **** thing just burned up. AMD gets TOO hot. Now I have a p4 2.53 mhz, it works great, not as much noise, very smooth.
Go for the P4! They're battling a lot with AMD so prices for the +2.0 ghz are lowered constantly, i bought my 2.53 for like 100$.
And i hade 2 fans and one Zalman copper cooling device thingy. Also, if you buy an AMD you better buy some silver CPU paste, its the best and it lowers the temperature a lot.

but I was just going to buy the AMD Athlon XP 2800+ :( Oh man this is hard ****

I suggest go AMD. The Pentium 4's claim to go 2,4 GHz but the actual performance will be way less. AMD's processor runs at a lower clockspeed but they will easily outperform Intel P4s. That's why they're called 2400+ , it indicates that the performance equals a 2400MHz processor. In reality, it actually runs at 2,4 Ghz not like the P4 running at half speed all the time.
I've always liked AMD more, Intel's processors run at half of the speed they are supposed to. AMD's processors do what they're supposed to, they rule.
The key is RAM indeed, buy as much as you can, 512 MB is the minimum.

Good choice :) Some advice :
1) Make sure you have enough free PCI slots.
2) If you're up for gaming, buy the fastest card there is. At the moment, the ATI Radeon 9700 Pro is the fastest I think. Until GeForce 5 is released, that is.
3) If you're up for gaming, buy a decent harddisk too. It's a very important part of gaming.
That's about the most important part :)

June 8th, 2003, 04:13 PM
ok I will remmember that to (-:
I will have about 40 or 60 GB then I will add more...
Ram yes 1 GB...
Motherbord well I must check, but how many shall I have of PCI slots ?
Voetsjoeba
June 9th, 2003, 03:34 AM
Well, 4 or 5 free PCI slots is recommended, so you'll have enough slots to upgrade later.
PS If you have the money for it, try to get a motherboard that supports RAID striping. Boy, that's fast ! It cuts the general read and write time by half, which is a blessing for gaming :beam:

intel is much better then AMD
i will try to find it but a uni in LA did some computer test and an AMD 2.4 come out the same as an Intel P4 2.1
so intel is much faster.
(i will try to find it before you start a fight AMD fans)
and you need that graphics and RAM updates
i have a Ge-force MX440 (pitiful) and 512mb Ram (not bad) and a 1.9 intel P4. My machine can handel anything apart for GTA3 for some reason, but i think that is my graphics card.
your looking at some really high priced up-grade you should look into getting a new CPU, they are only about £400 if you don't but a monitor and stuff with it, that what i did because i have a 19' sony monitor so i didn't not want a new one.
Although Ram is VERY cheao now and a new chip is not that much but it depends on what you want it for.

The guy`s company need to have the lates and best processor in the world. You go to the Pc marcet and see that Intel Pentium is the best and have high price because it give you "the good things" but this guy have big company he dont give a **** about money, he knows somethig that his granfather told him. Everything who is low price is not good and dont last long, but the high price thing will last longer and give you the things you whant it to. well this guy
will definatly buy Inte Pentium becouse it have high price and last longer with good "Security"
Intel creats processors for bussines using not just home using.

have you considered the possibility that intel is more expensive, simply because it is a better known brand? I respect the fact you like intel, so if thats what makes you happy then go for it!
I just dont think you should always follow the "greater expence = greater quality" because it simply isn't true all the time. E.G. Mc Donalds. Their burgers are expensive and the quality is very poor (trust me, i worked in one for a bit). The cafe down the road from me has cheap burgers without the pretty packaging, but are better quality.
The same can be said about intel and AMD (in my opinion). Intel has pretty packaging, and spends a lot of its money promoting its products. We have all seen the adverts. AMD simply relies on the fact that it produces good, reliable, stable chips and doesn't need pretty packaging and shiney adverts.

You have prob had more luck with intel than i have, which may be why you are happier with them. Processors are that powerful and cheap now, the brand you go for is almost irrelevant. Just go with the one YOU like the most.
