*Those entries marked with (FP9) require the Flash Player 9 which can be downloaded from http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/.

TheCanadian (http://www.kirupa.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1882290&postcount=304)

(Note, those using FP9 will also need to be compiled using the Flash 9 compiler (http://www.senocular.com/flash/tutorials/as3withmxmlc/))

I would like to personally thank those who entered. I was especially impressed with the quality of submissions. Good luck!

Sen: The arrows on your helix coil don't work properly anymore. I dunno if it's just me, but when I'm at the picture display page and I want to focus on a certain picture, I click the arrow to scroll the helix and it does nothing.

It worked before right? I remember having it spin just to look pretty. :\

hmm, they're working for me. I dont know what could be wrong on your end. Thats odd.

Is anyone else having the arrows not work for them as well?

Even if it worked like it did, I like the simplicity/elegance of freeskier's gallery. Gotta go with aesthetics.
Though I gotta admit, Sen, nice helix effect. I love that.

Edit: Like they work at the beginning, when the pictures are in a long line. But after they coil up and display the picture to the left, the arrow buttons don't work anymore. I dunno :\

Edit2: Aha! If you click on the arrows during the 1st part, then click a photo, they will stop working (whichever 1 or both you clicked). Try it.

Edit3: You don't even have to click on them, just hover over them then select the first pic you want to view and they won't work for the helix.

Before senocular's post after w1sh's post, the up arrow would work while the helix was in condensed form. After I cleared my cache (after senocular's post), neither button would work. I'm using Firefox 3.0a1, if that helps.

eeek. Well Im still not having problems here, even using an uncached swf (in FF 1.5 using FP 9.0.2.0). Oh well

I am using FP 9.0.0.296, so perhaps that is part of the problem. I always thought it was more fun to click on the helix anyways. :)

While all of the entries are good, I really liked the feel of freeskier's entry :)

Sen - that helix effect is really cool, and the arrows work for me on IE7!

I guess what really matters is the final version of the Flash player and that will come out soon enough. :te:

It's between freeskier and senocular for me. I think freeskier's looks better but that coil is so darn cool :)

Alright I had to go with senocular. Despite the fact the freeskier's looks amazing, the amount of features that senocular put in there is even more amazing.

All of the entries were top notch though, it was hard enough narrowing it down to those two.

All entries are really good and i was impressed by the couple experimenting with AS3.
I`ve also voted for freeskier89.

sen's is awesome! I love how when I resize the window the line starts to curl up into a helix. so neat :)

I like the look and feel of freeskier, I also voted only in the range of the ones I could actually use. I'm guessing senocular's is awesome, but since I couldn't see it I'm voting for freeskier. BTW: Great work everyone. Perfect work for freeskier, it just felt so clean and contemporary. :D

Ooh, I hadn't tried resizing it while it was in the album-view mode, that's very fun to play around with!

First off all enteries are cool, all great work and congrats to you all for making this so hard to pick a winner.

For me it's sens with the helix effect :thumb:

I liked the others and especially insaniak's movie, freeskiers is good to but just think web mewbies would maybe have a hard time using it...impressive though

well done everyone involved :beam:

I voted for Free as well, Sen's was cool but the 3D thing seemed a little tacky.. Free's flowed better. :thumb:

I really liked Free's too but I wish it had boundaries. It's really easy to "lose" it off the edge of the screen and I agree that novices may have trouble controlling it.

And actually I thought Defective's was great too. Nothing fancy but very well organized and implemented. :thumb:

Every single one of these is hella better than I could do!! :P

Every single one of these is hella better than I could do!! :P I knew the boundary issue would be the death of my gallery :) . I'll fix that shortly and post it after the poll is done. BTW, when does the poll end?

BTW: Thanks for the votes everyone .

At 2nd place I wouldn't say "death" of your gallery. It truly is remarkable. :thumb2:

oh you'd be surprised. Don't you ever design flash apps for people who have never interacted with a website ever? I mean that as in an interactive website, not any old website.

My guy is an artist/musician who does construction/carpentry for a living. He's the perfect guinea pig for anything/everything I build because he doesn't know how to do ANYTHING on a website. ;)

Well, I don't have many clients like that. In fact I don't have many at all. (Clients that pay.. not free work.. I have enough free work.. :()

Well I have one client... I'm guessing she's 50's-60's, and she probably wouldn't like that thing that moves around and flies off the screen! You got to remember, that probably most of the people on here are reasonably computer literate, but that does not mean that all of the general public is as computer smart as we are...
I voted for Sen's... freeskiers is pretty sweet though... just needs some boundaries.:P

COngrats Senocular, it looks pretty much like you've won (freeskier: 17 to senocular: 21). I'll save the official congrats for later. (Defective/Joshua, win's my prize for Best GUI Copy, it was amazing! That's my opinion.)

I offer a formal congratulations on the winning of the ActionScript Gallery Battle to Senocular.
Even though I've never even seen his because I only have Flash Player 8.

And I award my Best GUI Copy Award to Defective, now known as JoshuaJonah.
