I've just been called for a new freelance gig. It's a mock-up design for a magazine (not sure about the content), but I basically just need to get an overall style and design worked out, which they'll then adapt for the real magazine.
Needs to be clean, fresh and contempo.
Anyone got any recommendations for inspiration? Names of magazines, links, images, anything?
I've got a good appreciation of this style, but I just need something to get the juices flowing... :beam:

where do you start, just go to your local paper shop and go through the mags until they tell you to leave or buy something, lol.
I always keep a eye out for modern architecture magazines, one in particular i got was black and thick, printed on some nice matt stock, forgot the name something like "contemporary architecture", it had a great layout grid + smart use of colours and headers, i believe it was a monthly mag.
Mostly what you need to focus on in a magazine layout is the grid that you use. i like 3 col with image spaning on two cols as a header and a drop quote to remaining col, and one col is usually thinner than the other two i sometimes play around with it and make the thin one middle or right or left but every time I always start with the grid finalised.
::also check out modern furniture mags hidden layout gems in them sometimes, also colour use and modern aspect of the houses can be inspiring.
