When Buying a printer why do they not come with a USB cord or even something to hook it up to the computer?. I never understood this, that a vital component to making the printer work is not not included in the packagaing

:sigh: $#%^&*$ printer companies!

Every printer I've ever bought in the states has been deprived of a cord as well. It just allows them to sell the printers for a bit cheaper, oddly none of the big guys really sell cords, I always end up getting a Belkin cord or something similar. It'd make more sense if they gouged you on that too.

Luckily at this point I've got 4-5 extra USB cords laying around. I've also never bought a printer that had the cord with it. I can't imagine it really costs them that much. Possibly back when it was a parallel cord, but now?

:sigh: $#%^&*$ printer companies!Mine didn't either... I figured it was because it was a photo printer (as in from digi.cam to printer). But still. :scream:

Nor did mine. I share my mp3 player's cord with my printer as the plug is the same

They could be assuming that by this day and age (rightly or wrongly), most people already own a printer with a USB cable and that the new printer will be replacing the old printer.

Honestly, it's not that bad of a practice (assuming you DO realize that there is no USB cable in the box)...why pay an extra $15 for the printer to get a cord you don't even need!

I hope they never find the brilliant idea of not including starter ink cartridges with printers, that'll be the day...

They should include it yes. Luckily enough I was able to use my Motorola cable modem USB cable for my printer.

I like how most of the starter ink cartridges comes with about 1/4 of the ink of a regular cartridge...

And I believe one of the reasons is so companies like Dell can charge $25CAD for a USB cord... crazy expensive. i picked one up at a local shop for $3.99 when I got my printer.

Aren't those synonymous?

No - they could be saving money so as not to pass on the extra cost to the consumer. Whereas if they didn't package the cable and still sold it at the same retail price they would do with a cable, they'd be doing it to make money.
