Yeah, that's a good deal. If the "Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0" wasn't included it would have been a ripoff:)

Meh... I'm not much of a fan of PC notebooks that aren't tablet notebooks. I think that's prolly the only one thing to me that will make me buy a PC laptop over a Mac one. But aside from that I didn't see a price for the alienware one...

Aware is about 150 bucks more. I went with a more powerful processor in a attempt to offset the duo core 1.66 not sure if that is how it works. For some reason I am struggling. Bout ready to push the buy button on either screen. But I hesitate. I am not quite sure why tho

In my opinion, if you get the alienware setup you'd be crazy not to take the UXGA 1920X1200 screen.

find a friend that is in college and get a macbook pro for 2300 educational discount. Yeah you might have to save up a bit more though.

I dont have the cash to switch all my software to MAC. SO mac is out of the question for me.

Oh yeah that Aware has the UXGA...forgot to add that

Here is a better summary of the alienware lappy.....My question i son the processor and FSB. The dell has the duo but the M is a bit faster but a slower bus. Its like a push pull and it is hard for me to choose between the two....HEEEELLLLp

Might want a longer warranty. I had a year with my current laptop and it died like 3 days after warranty ended.

I prefer the Core Duo 1.66 with the faster bus. The dual cores might come in handy for future apps that take advantage of both cores, and you can't go wrong with the faster bus and memory.

Cheaper/not a dell:

I agree with k-man. Pentium M is old now, the Core Duo will definitely give you a more bang for the buck in the long run. So, I'd go with Dell.

salimai its not cheaper. I have 750 buck off coupon....:D I think I am getting the dell. One question tho. Is it possible to put a duo core chip in the alienware at a later date? Just curious on the upgradability after I purchase which ever.

I doubt they run on the same motherboard, so probably not.

Unless I'm way off base processors are typically soldered directly to the motherboard on laptops. Saves space versus the socket method, so probably not.

If it was down to those two, I would take the Dell for sure. Pentium M just simply can't compare with the new Core Duos. Even if Dothan is one of the coolest codenames ever.

That was only $10 for me total… only shipping for Adobe products.

Other than that… my only recommendation is to get a second battery. I'm so glad I did that for my MacBook… I never have to worry about running low. I always can just shutdown and boot again after changing it. No fear at all. :D

Also, why use the Media Center? Why not Pro?

Nope, processors are changable. They're just like desktop CPUs.

Did you guys know you can negotiate with Dell? I straight negotiated XP pro, 4 years of on-site service and the 1.8ghz duo. all for the same price. Needless to say I went with Dell. CNET's reviews sealed it. The only bad they listed was a good bad.

The bad: Lacks integrated TV tuner, though a PC Card tuner is available.

Negotiate? As in call them up and bargain?

That's awesome… I didn't know that!

yea, I told him that the Alienware folks gave me a better deal....then the bargaining was on. He basically matched what I said (*cough* lied *cough*) Alienware supposedly offered me. So I got the extra stuff at the same price.
