View Full Version : Question about illustrator and text...

Hey people,

I'm really stuck on this issue. I'm trying to put the numbers 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-0 on a circle. The point is: they should keep te same angle, so all of them are readable without rotating the object. Also, they should be devided with the same space between every number so that you get a prefect circle with the numbers 1 - 9 and 0 on it with a 36 degree angle between every number.
I've tried text on a path, but that rotates the text along with the circle. I'm using Illustrator CS, and yes I am a newbie 8-] . I've heard omething about arrays, but I'm completely unknown with that technique.

You could cheat by creating lines at 35 degrees intersecting on the circle, and then plac3e the numbers at those points? -- its not an auotmated function, but yuou can do it in like 2 mnutes

I have no clue about arrays but here's a quick way... click on the thumbnail... it's a long image "tutorial"... you should be able to figure anything else out that you need based off of that...

That's exacly what I mean only the numbers shouldn't be rotated, but they should just keep their 0° angle.

yea you'll have to do it manually then, rotate them... in the character palette there is a character rotate function. Highlight a number and rotate them in incriments of 36... so 2 you'd make 36, 3 you'd make 72, 4... 108... and so forth then you'll need to adjust the kerning afterwards. But after you've put in all the right rotation degrees they'll be close to lining up correctly.

The image below was done with the tutorial previously provided, and then applying the rotation degrees on the numbers

;) yea, but I didn't read your post before hand... I posted a minute after you did :D prolly like 10seconds after you did, as I was in the process of doin all that.
