^ That's the computer I wish to build. Feel free to comment on it.
I just had a question, there are front ports on the case. How am I going to hook those up to the motherboard? (If I were to buy it, which I have a slight chance.)

ugh @ western digital. i'd go w/seagate.

Mmmm Segate are supposedly better.
Also 4x512MB RAM is faster than 2x1GB, dunno if it's more expensive tho...

Am I going to need another fan, or is the fan included with the case good enough?
edit:/ Changed to a Seagate and 4 512s

It's cool… the case is bit small. ;)
I don't know much about hardware to comment on it, though.

Really?
Also, why do you have a floppy drive? Who uses those anymore? I haven't touched one in years…

Yeah...are you being sarcastic?

go SCSI... :bounce:

When you have parents as old as mine who still don't understand how to use a CD...
My dad still uses floppies :( One of our cameras does too. Its just good to have the functionality I guess.
go SCSI...
Is that some sort of hard drive type? Iunno, I tried to keep everything compatible, however I'm somewhat illiterate :P

SCSI is a different type of drive bus. (e.g: PATA, SATA, SCSI, Fibre, etc..) It's just faster, mostly used for server setups, and used for RAID arrays.:)
I use a SCSI RAID 0 array for my boot drive and acheive about 3ms read time. That will blow the pants off any Serial ATA drive you could buy. But it costs more and you require a board with 64-bit PCI slots to pull it off:)

Personally I'd be a little worried about fitting that All-in-Wonder inside a mini-tower. If it does fit, it might be pretty tight so you definitely want to work out ventilation.

There should be wires running from the ports on the front of your case that you plug into your motherboard. Just read the motherboard manual when you get it...it should explain how to hook up the "front panel audio" and "front panel usb". It's really easy. Looks like a nice machine by the way...except for that ATI card (I like to use Linux so of course I'm biased towards Nvidia).

Just curious, what's the reasoning behind this?

Yes! I'm not the only person that doesn't know about that… :D

Actually I was wondering the same thing :P I just feel inferior to anyone who's touched a computer when it comes to the hardware, so I didn't ask. I obeyed orders.

well basicly i think without googling it... that because you have 4 slots the data is read quicker and load is shared over the slots rather that tryying to read it all from 2... kinda makes sense when you think about it.. somthing like that anyway

Yeah, I guess the same goes for a RAID HD array… that makes perfect sense. I doubt it makes all that much difference, though.

that dosent make any sense? how can 4 chips be quicker than 2 they would/should be identical if they run at the same bus speed. And there is nothing wrong with western digital, im using a brand new 320 gig 16meg cache drive that works just fine.
JoshuaJonah

Well, sniper just a bout summed it up. Thats the reason, it can read over more "wires" at one time thus lowering the latency in getting it from the chips.

well ok fair enough, the speed will be hardly noticable, and then you really don't leave your self upgrade space.

Yeah I never understood the universal hate of Western Digital, my two WD drives have served me extremely well.
Actually, in general I've been extraordinarily lucky with hardware failure... the only thing that's showed signs of failure on me have been one DVD drive and one Pocket PC. Oh and an LCD that got replaced for free.

true, thats the trade off. The same reason people pay $300 more for a video card that is .01% better than it's competitor

I'd get a beefier PSU. 420W might have problem sometimes. Go with 550W. Also me personally, I'd buy an AMD. And 2 gigs of RAM. 2 gigs of RAM is really the way to go.

It's becoming a common template but this is what I recommend to anyone with a new PC. AMD Dual Core 3800+ or higher with 2GB DDR (Corsair, Kingston or OCZ), LG or Pioneer DVD. The only thing I credit you for is the Seagate lol.
I am not up to date with the new m'boards but you should get at least 480W.

I like the case.
I LOVE the case. :)
Seeing that Pentium D 800MHz CPU there kinda made me cringe, tho... Can't you find any decent AMD microATX boards?

4x512 is only faster in theory. Nothing is as perfect as them theories, so really u wont notice it. hehe.
I would personally go for the 2 x 1gb and leave room to upgrade. I hate throwing away ram...
Also, I have Maxtor HDs... I've heard alot of hate about them but I've have about 4.. all are still running great.. and one is 10+ years old. I'm not sure about price differences or performance, and too lazy to look it up :D

I just have an unsupported hatred to AMD for some reason. I had an IBM AMD, can't say I liked that computer very much :P
I'll stick with Intel :thumb:

It is possible that 4x512mb will be like hmmm.... 2-3 % faster then 2x1gb... Question is do you really want to give up a good and easy upgrade path for your memory just to make it 3% faster? If you take 4x512mb, you are gonna be stuck with it, because you have no mem slots open anymore, and cannot just plug some extra mem in. As for 2x1gb, it will be 3 % "slower" (like anyone is gonna notice that) but you can easely put more mem in when the time comes....
so plz, go for the 2x1GB....
