Ok i've started my game which is called uNatural. Its my first game ever, but compared to the stuff on newgrounds it will hopefully OWN them.
There are just two things i want to find out:
1 - Im using tonypa's website to help me (/teach me :s) but I dont want to "nick" his code in hard core but modify/learn and make it better. Of course I will give the site a credit but is it O.K. to have your core engine like 60% the same as on a tutorial. I saw this game on newgrounds and it is EXACTLY the same to the game in this book i brought (not recommended) and its like one of the top games on newgrounds and I thought that was a cheap trick to play :(
2 - There are so many tile based tutorials on forums and two devoted sites, so why are there not loads of rubbish tile based games around, and not more tile based games on miniclip and newgrounds like heli attack and motherload??? I don't get it!?

Thanks for your help
Dan

For the first one, right on the first page of tonypa's website it states that as long as you're not selling the game, and you're giving him credit, using his code is fine. For the second, tile based methodes are concidered dated, even though they are more efficient. They are also harder to code, unless you know how. Anyone can draw their own maps and hittest, but learning to generate a tile based map without a tutorial? Possible, but it wouldn't happen very often

I find in some ways its easier, cos hittest lags the hell out of flash and the graphics can be more precise like in the real world. AND the graphics dont even have to follow the tiles

for the graphics try to learn abot isometric perspective, that will help the game in the end as it makes as AS too.

Should make your game easier.

P.S You sure your ready for newgrounds? i have been making games for 3 years and i only have one entry that was kept.

That's another reason you don't see many terrible game on newgrounds. The users there have a very low tolerance for games that aren't any fun. They get blammed fast.

What are you talking about?
How will isometric help me in anyway to make a 2D game?
And newgrounds has the worst games on it apart from madness interactive. People dont submit anything good to newgrounds so everything on it sucks mostly.
