I have a picture and cut out a person from it and delete the rest and its transparant so when i place it in a brochure you will only have the person.
In dutch we call this "vrijstaande foto" but what is the correct English term for this image kind ?
Anybody know ?

We call this a cut-out image.
I don't know whether you know the best way to do this but I'll tell you anyway just in case - I am presuming you're using PhotoShop
Use the pen tool to draw a path round the image - always draw your path just inside the image you're cutting out.
Save the path
In the path palette go to Clipping Path and select the path you've just saved.
Save as EPS.
You don't need to get rid of the background this way so your image is still intact for future use.

heh the online translator calls it a "being free photo"... i think we have the right idea though.
in terms of doing it, i would personally just use a layer mask and create a selection around the man, then mask out the background. Still non-destructive, and i find it gives more options than the pen tool.
and just save it as a png.

^ no no, save as a tiff or eps, If he is creating a brochure he is most probably putting this into indesign.

We call this a cut-out image.
or knocked-out, transparent, masked, matted, or "deep-etched" (as the old-schoolers like to say)
