Which artist / band is the biggest music icon in history? I'm speaking in a music and artistic (music videos, album covers, style, etc.) point of view. For you in the first place, but also for others... when you look at the fans and hysteria, the media, the influence on other artists, etc.

And Please, try to be fair:

- It doesn't matter if he / she is already dead (Elvis, Beatles,...)
- It doesn't matter what he / she does in his / her private life (Madonna, Mick Jagger,... but especially Michael Jackson)
- It doesn't matter if he / she didn't make something new for a long time (obviously Elvis, The Beatles but also Prince)
- etc.

Sorry if I forgot a big artist or band in the poll. If you want to vote for "Other", please mention which one.

Just curious... :)

I say Elvis.

He single handedly started the musical revolution, the beatles just added a little more momentum.

Madonna is a skank....

U2 just plain bites.....

The stones are ok, but they really didnt add much influence

The symbol AKA prince, was nothing more than one of those pop-culture flukes like millie vanilli or the backstreet boys

Kiss i dont like but..... rule because thier fanbase is incredible. But if they have 1 more farewell tour I am going to puke.

Stevie wonder rules. gotta love handicapped celebrities.

I am not even going to touch that genetic misfit jackson......

The idea of this poll was to look at the *talent*, but OK. :P

I agree with Madonna and Prince, but KISS? I mean, if they rule because of their fans, why not pick Michael Jackson? OK, he's ugly like hell, and I don't want to start about the whole child-abuse-thing he has going on, or the nose, lips, chin jobs, but he has done Thriller, Billie Jean, Smooth Criminal, heck, even Scream and They Don't Care About Us are wonderfully made. You know, the hat, the single glove, the dance... it was all original in those days. His last single was pure crap, but one can't stay at the top forever I guess. The Beatles are in my opinion truely the "dead legend" here... I don't think Elvis has a lot of influence on today's music industry, but he surely keeps die-hard fans. Not enough to be better then The Beatles though. But as the "living legend", I would pick Michael Jackson, honestly. Britney Spears, Christina Aguicrap, Justin Timberlake, Usher, some rap artists, Destiny's Child, and so on are copying him nowadays. He's getting old now, about 44 if I recall from his last interview, but he sure kicked ***.

funny nali :rd:

I picked the Beatles. Even though I haven't listened to much of their music, their music has influenced and spawned numerous other groups that followed including my favorite, the Bee Gees :)

It's gotta be Elvis. More grammy's and #1 hits then Beatles, plus he created an entire genre of music. He was the biggest artist in the 20th century.

I would say Elvis or Bob Dylan for their influence upon the genre in general, and upon me specificaly.. in the end I voted "other" because Dylan has had more of an influence on my personaly.. but I'd be just as willing to setting for Elvis in order to avoid an unwinnable debate.

I am going to change my vote:

Cradle of Filth

I am picking these clowns because their music is incredibly influencial in the sense that nobody would ever attempt to make music as awful as it.

Seriousy watching me fart on a snare drum for a 2 hours would be better than hearing one of their garbage tunes.

The Beatles. They've influenced so many people (like most of the English bands I listen to), and their music was just great. :)
