How do I change the color of a document background in PS CS ? in the image you see that it is grey and when I open a doc on my home pc, it's white and I would rather have it grey.
Also, I notice when I bring my work home and open PSD files I get a message about colors being wrong - don't remember exactly. How can I quickly match up what I have at work for color settings to what I have at home ?

well you can choose the gray you'd like to use and press alt-del to fill the background with it
if I remember correctly you can also choose the background color when you are creating a new document if that applies to you,
concerning the error, I can only guess that you may be using a different color bit depth or such
haven't used photoshop in quite a bit, so I apologize if any of this is incorrect

you misunderstood me, of course I know how to fill the background :) i'm talking about the area around the document, so when you resize it you get a white or grey color. At home I get white but at work it's grey and I like it better.

ic,
I believe that has to do with the windows theme you are using, do you have it on classic at home and default xp at work?

Yup you change that in the windows appearance/theme section
The colour profiles. Maybe your defaulting to two different profiles. Open the advanced options when you create a new doc and see if they match.
The right one to use would depend on what you use photoshop for (Web/printing/photos, CMYK RGB etc). I use sRGB IEC, but here is a PDF on Adobe Colour Space (http://www.photoshopforphotographers.com/download/ps7fp_color1.pdf)

Yeah, I agree with unclesond.
I noticed you are using RGB 8 bit. Is that what you use at school or at home?
When I took advanced PS the school comp was a Mac and I had a PC at home. So there were issues with colors, but that was a monitor issue.
But your problem is probably a default setting that is different than the school one.
I usually use sRGB unless the project calls for CYMK.
Just make sure you are using the same at school and at home, like unclesond said.
I am guessing you know the schemes like Pantone such and such, etc.

It's all pretty simple mate:
If you're creating stuff for onscreen viewing then use RGB
If it's gonna go to the presses for printing then stick with CMYK (make sure the resolution is set to atleast 300dpi)
I hope you know what I'm saying
I didn't quite get what you meant regarding the document background colours

I think he is talking about the border that windows puts the image in. He is calling it the background, but it really isn't.
It is a windows thing. Kinda like we can have different themes for these forums.

simplyarun - i know the difference between rgb and cmyk, but thanks :) I was wondering why when I open the same file at home it asks about color space or something similar - I guess I just need to set it the same under PS CS at home and at work.

Same here, just wood.
Are both monitors the same as far as LCD vs CRT?
