View Full Version : Is it just me, or are the new submissions in Kville kind of buggy?

Hey guys
I just hit Kville to see how it looked with all of the new submissions. :puzzle:
Here's the page I went to.
http://www.kirupa.com/lab/kville/main.htm
Is it just me, or are a bunch of the new submissions kind of messed up? Some of them have a gray box around the submission, like the background transparency was never set. Quiza's submission is crossing two plots. I guess it was too big for any of the existing sizes? Skunkycomics' golf green has that gray box and also seems a misplaced on the plot.
And I noticed my 'Rampage' submission has its colors all messed up. It looks like all of the black areas were set as transparent and the background shows through. :hurt:
Is anyone else seeing what I'm seeing? K-man, can you check this out?

yes, there are some problems, but i'm sure kirupa will fix them. :)

Hmm, it might be because those plots are PNGs. They work fine for me in IE7, but I will revert those few entries to GIFs in a few hours :)

I replaced all of the png's with GIFs. If you are still having a problem, could you post a screenshot of the problem area :)

That was quick. 'Rampage' is still screwed up, though. When it was placed in Kville, all the black areas are showing what's behind them. Take a look.

Hey Jokun, your entry looks really wonderful, can you teach me how detailed things like that

Thanks, jopiruizen. All I can say is check out all of the great tutorials on the web. There are lots of sites w/ tuts that'll help you iron things out. Then, just keep practicing. It takes a lot to get things just the way you want them. I don't know about everybody else, but it still takes me forever to put together one of these. That's why I originally stopped submitting to kville after three buildings (well, one was a statue). I have a couple other sumissions I was working on, but never finished them.
I usually do a lot of the odd-shaped bits freehand, then go over my rough idea again in another color and put the pixels exactly where I want them. Here are some of early stages of the 'Rampage' entry. You can see how rough George, Lizzie and Ralph were.

kirupa: question. were some of the submissions not good enough to be included in the city or something? for instance my newegg building? the city seems to have plenty of spots open...

Operator, yeah, some of the plots could use some more work. Your newegg building looks nice except for the egg in the roof as many have pointed out. Once you fix that, though, I will be sure to have your entry added up soon :)

A few people mentioned that the egg looked more like a photo or something that was stretched to fit. That looks really bad when compared to the rest of the pixel art. If you want to use that egg, try cleaning up the edges and fixing the details and colors of it. It looks like it was copied from somewhere else and dropped there, and doesnt' match well.

I don't know if it's my browsers settings or what, but I can't see any of KVille. Only the names of the people who made the homes in large, randomly spaced text.
I assume I'm looking at a masked layer that is supposed to display when I hover over the buildings. I'm not sure... tell me if anyone else has had this problem.

I have this problem, too.
