Ok so I'm gonna start setting up a local band site for the company I work for.

As I'm gonna be designing it I'd like to build it too.

Part of the site will be like a myspace page for bands but much simpler,
I was thinking of building it in php but I dont actually know any php yet.

Was just wondering if it would be hard to learn and hard to build a site like this.

Basically all it needs is register/login - upload pics/songs - update info - add gigs and for it all to be displayed on a page.

If anyone has any ideas where to start or any info or advice that would be awesome. Cheers.

When i first started learning PHP, i did the entire php video course thing from 3dbuzz.com. They show you how to set up a server on your computer and then the basics of php code.
Then i learnt what i needed as i go along but it gave a good base for knowledge.

PHP is actuallt gonna be i BIG hurdle if you are not comfortable with it yet. If i were you, I would separate the site into easily manageable peices and learn as you go, oh, and buy a good book..:)

And don't hesitate to ask questions here, you'll be suprised how fast the response usually is.

Ok so I've decided to go with this jamroom thing.

Its pretty much a pre built script which I can just mod to look how I want.

However there are a few things which I think need modding scripts wise, but thats after I change the look of it.

Also eventually as we aim to get bigger there will prob be some new features we will need building so if people are interested in building some addons for it watch this space :)
