Soon you could be running your laptop computer all day without a recharge as commercial versions of fuel cells go on sale.

At the Cebit technology fair in Hanover, Taiwanese hi-tech firm Antig said its fuel cells should be on the shelves of computer shops by early 2007.

Neat that would rock but I wonder what the $$/cart would be and how universal they will be able to make them also if I had to remove my DVD Drive from my laptop how would I watch my DVDs whilst flying ? :( thats half the reason I bought a 17in laptop

That day may not be that far away ...

Take a look at the ENV Bike (http://www.envbike.com/)

Itīs "core" is in fact a large fuel cell!

Just FYI!

Cool bike/concept BTW ;)

My concerns with this technology are more towards the fact that the fuel is easily combustible...

- How resistant are the fuel cases?
- In refilling is there a need to go to a shop due to special equipment being needed?
- In refilling is there a real danger of leaks if I do it myself?

How dangerous is it?
Is my laptop going to blow up if I drop it on the ground turned on?

More along these lines of concerns...

Others are along the maximum temperatures allowed, since my country gets up to the maximum allowed temperatures for laptops in the summer...

"So I was sitting in class typeing a paper and my laptop exploded."
They probably have it set up so that the refueling connector wont fill unless its securly attached.

And if worst comes to worst you can always use the fuel cell as a garnade?

Nine hours? That doesn't sound very impressive.

I really think they will be extra safe. You really don't want 5000 gaming kids blowing their arms off and each sueing the company for 250 mil. If they know what's good for them they will make it fool proof.
