Hi there,

our website, ukanvas, has just gone online (thanks to everyone here who helped us on the way)

It is a portfolio site that is free to join, where we sell artwork and offer commissions

http://www.ukanvas.com

Although I have posted this in another forum (careers), I thought I'd also come here to get some feedback.. moderators feel free to remove if you think this is a bit of a double post.

Anyway, I hope people like the design, it was difficult getting a balance - I didn't want it to be to OTT so that it distracted from the artwork (which is ultimately the most important thing), but I also didn't want it to be too boring (so that creative people would be put off)

This is also my first attempt at designing a site (I hope that isn't too obvious!)

Let me know what you think, and if you know anyone that may be interested / or would like to link to us, please spread the word..

Many thanks

Sam Austin

pretty nice! i like it. although it seems a bit too dull need to work with much more colors. Also when you roll over gallery you should keep the sub buttons still showing when you roll of it. The buttons too need some work. Dont show the blank boxes in gallery, just put the work on when you put the stuff on the website. Try fixing up your logo too, sometiems text and name for logo is a bit boring too. One more thing is too addd some transitions too.
well looking forward to seeing finished version

I like your navigation... but the rest doesn't really work for me - especially those boxes.

Thanks for the replies everyone,

hybrid101: thanks for the complement... what fonts were you speaking of, the body text (verdana) or the logo / menu texts? What would you suggest otherwise?

creationscentre: the idea behind the boxes was to give structure to the site (by sectioning off / bordering areas) without the use of bordered text fields.. looking at the layout, how would you have approached it? BTW I am purely asking out of interest, please don't think that I'm having a go - I am looking to improve.

waseemdesign: I find colours always hard, I think what I may do is skin the site so that the colour scheme can be altered by the user - what do you think? I'll try taking the blank boxes out of the gallery. I'm open to ideas about the logo - I think as a shape it is versatile enough to play around with (if you look at the news section you'll see what I mean)

Thanks to you all for your thoughts

I think take out the blank boxes. to improve the punch the site has I'd consider a black background instead of grey. I think that would punch it up a bit more :tie:
