Hey guys, I've got a problem. I have two computers at home, one my dad uses, and my old one. The one my dad uses is acting up and me not knowing the part-by-part setup, I really don't feel like formatting and finding every device and their drivers. So, which one is better:
(I know I could probably run PCMark or something but only one of the computers have shady internet and I don't have a USB stick over 64MB.)
Computer 1:
Pentium III @ 1Ghz
512MB SDRAM
Computer 2:
Celeron @ 1.7Ghz
256MB DDR-SDRAM (according to CPUZ...confusing)

Computer 1. P3 beats Celeron any day of the week.
.7 Ghz isn't much of a difference anyway unless your dad plays games, uses 3DSMax or has a program running an while(1) {}.

Thanks MT, I still went with Comp 2 (it has 2 USB2 ports in front while Comp 1 only has two USB1 in the back).
Now I have another question, is there an ultimate program to handle wireless stuff? I've been told not to use Wireless Zero, however, the program that comes with the Linksys adapter is still crap. Any ideas?

Linksys routers from my experience with them are pure crap, I suggest netgear which is much better.
Its simple to configure, stable and most importantly wont release your ips every 2 days or so like linksys does.

Not a router, the desktop is connected by an adapter. The program is a nightmare.

I've used Netstumbler before, isn't that just for discovering access points? Right now, the adapter can connect to the access point but can't get internet. I have to turn off encryption to get internet. I'm shocked people haven't developed some super open source wireless connector program.

Ok, I've found my problem. I checked ipconfig, apparently my router has been getting the ip of 168.254.3.15. I'm suspecting it's a DHCP problem but two other computers are connected to the router too with no problems. The IP should be 192.168.x.x, can I fix this through assigning IP/Subnet/Default gateway..etc?

Well first of all is your lan card/wireless card detecting the network?
Yes you can configure it manually just make sure you reserve the ip your gonna assign to the computer on the router.
good luck
