there are new cpu's that are dual core, meaning that they embody two seperate core's on one processor (two cpu's in one). It's similar to Intels Ht techonology but with HT technology you have one core and one virtual core, while the dual cores have two physical cores.
Actually there are a few threads on dual core if you search the forums..

Intel have their Pentium D range and AMD have their 64 x2 range.
Most new boards have the ability to run both dual core and non dual core processors, I just recently got a ASUS A8N-E deluxe (nforce4) motherboard with my AMD x2 4400+ processor, there is also a SLI version of that motherboard which can allow you to plug in two identical video card to work as one.
Regarding the option of 2 or 1 and which is better, well its hard to say, I regularly used multiple application and also do a fair share of gaming and using the 4400 it hasnt skipped a beat. Like i said many time before the computer world are leaning towards multiple of 2 cores and that will be implemented in most all computer activities, i belive Splinter cell 'chaos theory' already detects the use of a dual processing system. It is the way to go, but then again its still quite new technology.

no idea. Its better to buy a 1 dual processor. and get dual videos.
//and rename the thread 2 Processors sounds better.

Templarian's first post is probably the best answer if you really wanted 2 processors on the same motherboard, it probably depends on the model you're using.

OS'es such as Windows Server 2003, Solaris, Unix, and other variants can support 4 or more processors also.

Oh, so dual dual-core CPUs wouldn't do anything under XP?

Yes they would do something (work). You can use dual dual core processors with XP x64 Edition.
