Is there any advantage to buying online versus buying at the Apple store? And can you get a student discount in-store or is that only an online thing?
I'm sold on the MacBook Pro, hoping to get it before spring break hehe. I was going to get a Mac Mini and wait until the end of summer for the MacBook, but I figure why wait :P It shouldn't be too obsolete by the time I'm going to college anyway (which was when I was thinking I'd get one).
Edit: Whoops! I meant to post this in Computers and Games, can a mod please move it?

If you live close to an Apple store, just go ask :) Otherwise how else would you purchase it from an Apple store? :P

There's an Apple store about 5-10 minutes from my house :P But I never like talking to the people there, they seem snobbish hehe.

Yeah, I can't stand the people at my local Apple store. They know nothing about any products except iPods, and are rather rude, in my opinion.
I got mine through Apple.com. :thumb:

Wow, I'm suprised. Only one guy at the Apple store where I live is rude. There is this one really cool nice lady. And of course, everyone there is extremely diverse and original.

There's no real difference between store and online, the prices are all still the same (Apple are always really stubborn when it comes to prices, they will always be the same, wherever you shop for Apple products).
The only difference is that in the store, you can walk away with something then and there instead of waiting for it to be delivered. Plus you can try out something before you buy it.

You might be able to, they might have some form to fill out or something.
You might have to buy online or over the phone tho, i'm pretty sure they do some kind of check to make sure you are actually within the education system. I think Apple are different to other shops about the educational discount (in Higer Education anyway), I doubt you can just walk in and show your Uni card :moustache
Just go ask at the store...

Well the people at the Apple Store here in PH are very accomodating. I never knew I really have warranty on my broken ipod (darn batteries) and they searched it for me. Then ill just have to wait for 3 weeks to get my newly fixed iPod for free!
I just hope Apple bring down the prices a bit... it's kinda impractical here in PH...

I've used the EDU discount online for K-12, without having to give any information, except for my school.

how much is the education discount?
Yeldarb

It's like 10% or so. The MacBook Pro w/ 2.0 ghz proc is 2300 with the discount, off from 2500, so that works out to 8%. Other things are discounted different amounts.

I think I'm going to get an apple laptop, but i want to wait until all this intel chip compatability stuff gets fixed.
I think this is a valid question. Sometimes stores have discounts over buying directly from the company. But in this case, since the store is owned by apple themselves, I guess the prices are the same.
You can buy a cruise ship ticket much cheaper from third party vendors compared to buying it from the company themselves. Most cruise companies are like that.

the only difference is shipping time and customization...
chances are you can onlny get the stock laptop at the apple store, but you get it instantly.
i get the student discount online from applerockies.com, but i also get that discount in-store.
you might also save on tax online, depending.

No I think they do upgrades in-store. Those guys at the genius bar are supposed to be able to replace Hard Drives and stuff so I assume they can upgrade something you want to buy.

I'v only been in an Apple store once, I didn't buy anything but when I got my Powerbook at a different shop, they were able to do pretty much any type of upgrade in-store (or maybe they just kept a ton of different configs in the stock room, I dunno).
