Guys and Girls. Consider if you will that this discussion may help microsoft gauge the response to some new ideas or revisions of old ones in order to test their validity.

i know this is reviving an old thread, but i decided to post anyhow, im a skype guy myself but i got this email just now:

Hey it is Andy and john the directors of MSN, sorry for the interruption
but
msn is closing down. this is because too many inconsiderate people are
taking up all the name (eg making up lots of different accounts for just one
person), we only have 578 names left. If you would like to close your
account, DO NOT SEND THIS MESSAGE ON. If you would like to keep your
account, then SEND THIS MESSAGE TO EVERYONE ON YOUR CONTACT LIST. This is no
joke, we will be shutting down the servers. Send it on, thanks.
WHO EVER DOES NOT SEND THIS MESSEAGE, YOUR ACCOUNT WILL BE CLOSED AND YOU
WILL COST £10.00 A MONTH TO USE. SEND THIS TO EVERYONE ON YOUR CONTACT LIST.
NOW YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO. PLEASE DO NOT FORWARD THIS or REPLAY. COPY THE
WHOLE EMAIL. GO BACK TO YOUR INBOX AND CLICK ON NEW. AND PASTE THANK YOU FOR
YOUR ATTENTION
hey everyone, i dont normally send this sort of stuff out but had a look on
the internet and its actually true . On the 1st of november , we will have
to pay for the use of our MSN and email accounts unless we send this message
to at least 18 contacts on your contact list. It's no joke if you don't
believe me then go to the site:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/1189119.stm
and see for yourself.
Anyways once you've sent this message to at least 18 contacts, your msn dude
will become blue. please copy and paste don't forward cos people won't take
notice of it.

Here's how Tom would have done it:

Dear MSN/Hotmail user,

I am writing on behalf of MSN Corporate LTD to inform you that your MSN service will be closing shortly. MSN and MSN messenger services will in future, be incurring a fee on its users when relaunched on *date*.

As a result, we will be initiating a systematic deletion of MSN accounts, starting on *date*. If you do not wish for your account to be deleted, you must send this email to at least 13 other MSN users in order to declare on our database, that you are in fact currently, using this account. This is to eliminate static accounts that are not currently being used.

We apologize for any problems,
John *Last name*
*Position @ MSN corporate*
*department*

*office location*

--------

more to the point:

1. why would the directors be mailing it out?
2. why would the directors be mailing it out addressing it from BOTH of them..?
3. how the heck is mailing 13 people going to do anything? its not going to show up or change your msn's icon. EVER. it's an email. Hotmail can probably check that you've sent 13 mails that day...along with the 20 billion othe rpeople....
4. only dip****s type in caps for more than 2 words.
5. if you fell for this, go kill yourself. please.

I like chainletters

One of the best:

Mike was a small time flash-coder. One day he recieved this e-mail, PM'ed it to every one he know at kirupa.com and after 4 days he was the master of Flash and ActionScript.
This is no JOKE!!!
Send this message to everyone you know at kirupa forums (at least 10 people or you kirupa account will be deleted, this also NO JOKE) and after a week or so you'll be probably The King Of Flash & Actionscript! Really! And you can even download a nice AS editor for your PC at www.sepy.it but only if you forward it!

Best wishes,
Mr. Joshimatsumoto
Chairman of Wonderful Flash Kings of The East

I don't think you guys understood what the article was about. MSN wanted to offer premium services back then which they did for a while, ie bigger inbox, calender and some other things that I don't remember. That's what the article means by
Microsoft is reportedly planning to start charging surfers for the improved services of its MSN internet portal. and
We will build extra services into MSN and start monetising this within a year

the email is a hoax but the article isn't/
