ooo ooo oo riddles, my fav. here's a great one....
read this carefully cuz it's tricky as heck...
lets say you have two lengths of rope. they are not necessarily the same length. they are also not necessarilly the same width as eachother AND they are not neccessarilly a constant width along themselves (eg. one end of rope a. could be 1" thick, while the other end is 1.5" thick). each rope takes exactly 1 hour to burn, but because they are not a constant length, a rope could take 1 minute to burn through 75% and then the other 25% could take 59 minutes.
you have only these ropes and a lighter, and you have to determine a 45 minute time period by burning the ropes in some way.
what do you do?
Soul
April 20th, 2003, 08:21 AM
Ok, that was a really difficult one golgi. I've been thinking for ages and I think I've got it. If I have then you all know I actaully have a brain :P
Ok lets see...
(SPOILER! Drag down below to see 'answer' lol...)
You take one of the pieces of the rope and set fire to both ends of it. That way it'll burn through doubly fast, so that rope will all be burned in exactly 30 minutes. You also light one end of the other rope.
In 30 minutes the first rope will be gone and half the 2nd rope will be gone, at that time you light the other end of the 2nd rope.. (there is only 30 mins left on that rope because half has burned) So the remaining 30 mins of rope will burn doubly fast, in 15 minutes!!!
So... 30 mins plus 15 mins = 45 mins!
Wooo! I rock :beam::beam:
And you all thought I didn't have a brain ;)

I dunno how hard you'll find this one, but anyway! :beam:
Here goes...
Oh no! You've come down with a sudden infection!! The doctor gives you two bottles of tablets... Clohodradene tablets (C) and Tatradene tablets (T)... (Hehe I made up the name :P)
The doctor says you must take one of each of the tablets every day or you will die! :skull::(
Everyhting is going fine until one day you tip out three tablets instead of two!! Oh no! :P
By counting the remaining tablets in each bottle you can see that in your hand you have two C tablets and one T tablet.
The problem is that these tablets look exactly the same, they are the same colour, the same size, they smell the same... you cannot tell the difference.
How do you make sure you take the correct dossage of pills?
Note: If you take too many of one pill it will be fatal, if you don't take the pills it will be fatal, you cannot throw away these pills and start again because you won't have enough dossage for the week!
:beam:
Go! :P
I have a hint if you get stuck :)

April 20th, 2003, 09:10 AM
oo ooo ooo oo ooo...
i got it
you know you have two c's and one t,
so cut each pill in half, and then make two piles with a half from each one in it, then you will have one whole c in each pile plus a half of t. then take a t outta your t bottle and cut it in half and add each half to the pile. then take a pile of them. that will be two halves of each!
:bounce:
Soul
April 20th, 2003, 09:17 AM
lol I think you got it, hard to understand though :P :P
Solution...
You take one more T from the bottle, cut all the pills in half, and separate all the halves. Take one of the sets today and the rest tomorrow. I made a diagram to explain :beam:...

ok. this one is hard i hope. hehe.
There's these three women, and they go to a strip club for a bachelorette party. They decide to buy a private lap dance from Mr. Bigg, the hottie in the fireman's outfit. The clerk at the club says for the three of them it will be 30 dollars even, so they pay 10$ each. They go in for the lap dance, and while they are there, the clerk goes to ring up the money, and he sees that the price should have been 25$, so he owes the ladies 5 dollars back. Seeing as he can't break a five into three even amounts, he pockets $2 and then gived them back the three when they get done and tells them he made a 3$ mistake.
Here's the part that makes no sense. Each woman paid 9 dollars each now for the dance. 9x3= 27, plus the two dollars that the clerk pocketed = 29. so where did the extra dollar go???
andr.in
April 20th, 2003, 09:54 AM
hee golgi! I've heard that before but it was 3 men and a motel or sth!
anyway I figured it out but it doesn't make sense to me anymore... I forgot...
I remember that something... you don't have to add 2 to 27 but subtract it so it gives 25 or sth! Don't remember!
Illuminae
April 20th, 2003, 09:56 AM
:) yeah, your right pretty much. can anyone explain it fully?
Soul
April 20th, 2003, 10:09 AM
There is nothing tricky about that, and there is no 'extra' dollar! :P
You just worded it wrongly to try and trick us! :P But I'm too clever for you :beam:
Ok so theres $30 to start!
25 goes in the till, thats gone!
5 dollars left with the clerk!
He gives 3 to the women and 2 for himself!
Which makes, unless I'm wrong (which I'm not) $30! :beam:
How you worded it wrongly...
Each woman paid 9 dollars each now for the dance. 9x3= 27, plus the two dollars that the clerk pocketed = 29. so where did the extra dollar go???
9x3 = 27... correct!
But you ADDED the clerks $2, he didn't get 2 dollars on top, he just took the $2 from their $27!
So it should be...
9x3 = 27.... 27 - (minus not plus) 2 = 25 (What they really paid into the till) :beam:
25 in the till
2 in the clerks pocket
3 back to women

there's this king and he has a daughter. she has these two knights who are courting her, but she is his only daughter, and he doesn't want her to get married. in order to look good in his court however, he feels he must give the guys a chance to get her, so he comes up with the idea to have a competition to decide who gets to marry her. he is a really sneaky king though, and he devises a plan that he thinks will make no one get her. he announces that there will be a horserace, but instead of the winner whoever's horse comes in last will get to marry her. he thinks that this will never work because no one will ever finish because they will be going too slowly. the knights are trying to figure out what to do, but the princess really wants some nookie, so she comes up with a plan and the knights race, and one of them wins(loses), and she marries him, and they all live happilly ever after except the king, who is pissed, so he starts drinking massive quantities of carrot ale and eventually drowns in a bowl of pudding. the question is: what was the princess's plan??? Jubba

you would race faster so that your horse would come in last place. The person who's horse came in last gets to marry the princess...
andr.in

ye but nobody wanted to come first so they just sat there and waited for the others to finish.. which of course aint gonna happen!
Jubba
April 20th, 2003, 01:08 PM
yes you would want to come in first.
Ok, if your horse comes in last place, you get to marry the princess. So you switch horses and race as fast as you can. Think about it. It's the answer. :)
andr.in
April 20th, 2003, 01:21 PM
what are you talkin about????
Think about it! If you had to race you would just sit down on the start line and wait for the others to finish and then you lose! (which is good) but they're all gonna do the same thing so nobody finishes ever! But if I race as fast as I can and the other sit on the starting line then I finish the race first (which is bad)!!!

Jubba
April 20th, 2003, 01:33 PM
Ok there are two guys "A" and "B". A has horse "1" and B has horse "2".
They each want their horse to lose. So they switch. Now A is riding horse 2 and B is riding horse 1. If B crosses the finish line first his horse (2) losses, and he gets to marry the princess.
They ride as fast as they can because they switch horses. They want to beat their own horse.

Here is another version of the riddle, it might be easier to understand...:
An aged and somewhat eccentric king wants to pass his throne on to one of his two sons. He decrees that a his sons shall compete for the throne through a horse race. However, the King states that the son who owns the SLOWER horse shall become king.
A king's advisor fears that the King's sons will cheat by having their horses go less fast than they are capable of, and asks an old wise man for advice. With a mere sentence, the wise man gives a solution that will ensure a fair race. What advise did he give?
ANSWER DOWN BELOW
---ANSWER
The old wise man informs the King's advisor to have the sons switch horses when they race.

when you have your opponent's horse, you'll try to get to the finishing point earlier, as your horse (which your opponent is riding) would finish the race lastly, thus, you win :beam:
nobody
April 20th, 2003, 02:15 PM
Syko, i think what's messing you up is how the riders identified, they arent identified by themselves, they are identified by their horses. Therefor when they switch horses, they 'become' the other rider.
