Wow thats pretty weird considering intel has even publicly announced anything about a pentium 5.
Over the next 1.5 years all they will be doing is rolling out new pentium 4s , soon with 1mb cache.
I doubt Intel would give a non-employee a chip that they are not releasing for 2-3 years.

Um you don't add the processor speeds together... 2 p4 2.4ghz's do not = 4.8 ghz.

"Um you don't add the processor speeds together... 2 p4 2.4ghz's do not = 4.8 ghz."
yes thats true, but the maximum power I can get is about 4.8ghz. Secondly, there is no such thing as dual P4 (:

I said I had a dual xeon. Big difference between xeon and P4
comicGeek
July 25th, 2003, 03:51 AM
xeons are designed for the new intel servers that cost well, alot! :-\
You're rich I should say!
stftk
July 25th, 2003, 03:51 AM
well xeons are not only for servers. They are built mainly for servers, but also perform excellent as a workstation.
BTW, You can get xeons cheaper than you think. The only xeons that are expensive are the newest ones like the 3ghz one. I have dual 2.4, so its not as much.
comicGeek
July 25th, 2003, 03:59 AM
as I have heard xeons need more cooling and a high quility board to perform well.... I think P4 2gig is much cheaper.
stftk
July 25th, 2003, 04:01 AM
yes a P4 2ghz is much cheaper.
Well most dual xeon mobos run around 500-700$, while P4 mobos run about 100$. You dont neccessarily need more cooling, just two heatsinks, one for each processor.
If you count every fan in my system (including fan on my radeon card, in powersupply, on heatsinks, etc). I have 8.
comicGeek
July 25th, 2003, 04:06 AM
8 wow! I think you should consider a water cooling instead! not cheap but very very cool it's hot! :)
stftk
July 25th, 2003, 04:08 AM
I dont think they make water cooling for xeons. You see I am pretty sure watercooling is only for amd athlon XP or pentium 4.
If you buy a heatsink/watercooler, you need to know your cpu socket. For example, xeons are socket 604, which means there are 604 pins between the cpu and the cpu socket. Pentium 4's are around 470 pins I believe, not sure though.
You get what im saying?
mlk
July 25th, 2003, 04:14 AM
you guys are all talking cpu speed - nowadays more than 2ghz is just a waste cause all other components are proportionaly too slow - IE - the cache, RAM, Graphic Card Driver, CD player. People should consider developping them as well...
stftk
July 25th, 2003, 04:16 AM
actually, even with little ram and a poor graphics card having a faster cpu makes a noticable difference in framespersecond while playing games.
Well anyways i dont need to worry about other components,
comicGeek
July 25th, 2003, 04:36 AM

Watercooling is hugely overrated.
Example : Using this case (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?submit=manufactory&catalog=7&manufactory=1617&DEPA=1&sortby=14&order=1) your case temp will only get down to about 70 degrees. Not anything special and that isn't overclocked.
Now if you want a real case!!!
Check this out (http://www.vapochill.com/)
This bad boy uses cyro technology to really put your CPU on ice. A matter a fact you have to put a heat pad between ur CPU and mobo otherwise it will freeze it.
Go check this experiment out that Tom's Hardware did with it.

I 'had' a beautiful computer once, or at least what I thought it was. I have a:
Dell
1Ghz
256SDRam
32MB Geforce 2
17'
20GB
I know it sounds crappy, but the computer I had before that was a:
Unkown Brand
100Mhz
48SDRam
Onboard graphic card - <2MB
15'
1GB
So, that was a big difference and I have no problem playing most of the games that I currently own. BF1942 runs pretty well on my computer, the only thing is the menu, it's a bit choppy.

*cracks knuckles*...
Oig...
There are currently 4 computers in my office that I use... The one I'm on now is the one I use most often... It's not very powerful so I can test all my expriments and websites on a low end machine. That way they all show up nicely on a more reasonable level.
This machine is...
Old gateway Pentium II 700 mhz
256 megs of ram
Nothing big.. Nothing extremely extravagant either.. So I don't really worry about it much.. it has the scanner and main printer attached to it...
My second machine is actually a server rack of machines.. Which is my server... I have 4 main server units, a UPS, KVm switch board, integrated laptop system and a built in hub for it...
3 of the four major server units have the same set up.. Windows 2000 Advanced Server and they are running off of Pentium 4's. 2.2 ghx is I so remember... Each are connected to automatically backup data... The one has actual back-up data tape as well.. 24 gb tapes.
The other one is set up with linux as a testing server... We use this to test linux out and everything else... The actual specs on everything in the server would fill up a couple of pages.. SO I';ll leave it at that...
My main computer... This is the one I chill at and do gaming and anythign hardcore related...
Cyborg Green Alienrware Area 51.. Basically the mid range settings...
Pent 4 3.0 ghz
2 gb of RAM
Dual Monitors
Geforce Card
That's the basic stuff... Got everything in cryborg green... You wouldn't believe the amount of clients that look at that machine and just go.. HOLY ****! *lol*...
And my last machine is a simple lap top... Old, but good...
I'm looking into grabbing one of those new tablet laptops.. Where you can actually write on it like a tablet with a digital pen.. Quite neat looking and would help out around the office... Reduction in paper.. *lol*..
Take it easy guys
