I like the start! As nokrev said you need to add shadows. Currently it looks pretty flat and non-conical. Add more value and maybe make the brown darker, it kind of looks sandy now?
I really think it will be really sweet when done!
Oh, I have an idea that I think that would look really good, and it would add some color. Try adding palm trees! It is yours though, so do whatever you want to do with it. :thumb:

The wizard seems a bit out of place also. I like Plastic forq's suggestion of adding some trees and some random other things such as a house in the path of the lava, etc. The mountain itself looks too plain right now, so anything you can do to divert attention would help a lot.
EDIT: Also, like nokrev said, adding shadows could provide the illusion of depth.
EDIT2: Could you attach the image to the forums directly as opposed to using an external host/imageshack?
