hey all,

is there a way to export an illustrator file (say as an eps or something) with brushes... basically i've used a brush on a stroke, and i'm worried that when someone else gets the file it won't be there. I don't seem to be able to "convert to outlines" because it's already just a stroke really... is there a way to make the brush a vector object?

thanks
Stu

you can.. by selecting the stroke then going to object/expand appearance.. the only issue with that is that if you try to select a colour after you have expanded it, it sorta messes up.. once you expand it and select the foreground colour the tools has a question mark meaning it has multiple object selected or there are multiple colours in this object. there might be a way around it with ungrouping and clipping paths but i have to try that to see.. ill do that when i get home ;)

edit:: did it quick at work.. same as above but ungrouped the item a few times (just kept pressing ctl shift g) and then deleted the original stroke that was still there (thats what was causing the weird colour fill) should be all good now. :)

oh cool!

is the expand appearance used for anything else? i haven't come across it before. (i haven't got illustrator with me to play with either).

well that's good to know, i was avoiding using brushes for that reason, so thats cool.

expand and expand appearance are used for many things.. symbols // live trace // pathfinder results.. the only issue is that you commit to the deconstruction of the path or simple form it originates from.
