Hey people,
I was looking at the old 3d battle threads, which were pretty interesting by the way, and I'd like to possibly start another one? I need some sort of sprak to work on my 3d skills, so how about some ideas people?

I was thinking of a city scene? Maybe New York? Or possibly Baghdad? Something intreseting.

I would Join if we are allowed to do any city. It would be boring if it was all the same city.

TheHush
February 5th, 2006, 12:21 AM
Yeah what do you guys want to do? Any city?

kiwee
February 5th, 2006, 06:46 AM

TheHush
February 5th, 2006, 06:42 PM
Interesting indeed. Anything specs guys? Or should we just keep it, city scene?

ar
February 5th, 2006, 07:40 PM
Modeling an actual city would take some time. Any more ideas?

GBP

TheHush
February 5th, 2006, 08:06 PM
I was thinking more of just a street or something. But how about a castle or something? Medieval scenery?

ar
February 5th, 2006, 08:34 PM
How about just any scenery goes, just something that has good concept, and good meaning.

GBP

TheHush
February 5th, 2006, 10:14 PM
Yeah how about we have to include maybe 1 or 2 buildings/shelters of some sort.

ar
February 5th, 2006, 10:25 PM
Perfect :D!

Wish I could join. Unfortunately, I dont know anything about 3D imaging :sigh: Do let me see the outcome ;) This will be really interesting. If I were in, I might suggest building a futuristic city coz the ideas are limitless and you can design anything impossible. lol

Sciurus
February 6th, 2006, 10:16 PM
Count me in!
But I kind of... ummm... just started Rhino a week ago. soo...
I won't win, but 'twill be a learning experience. yes... a learning experience...

ElectricGrandpa
February 6th, 2006, 10:25 PM

TheHush
February 7th, 2006, 09:18 AM
Great! Looks like we should get started. Should we have a due date? What do you guys think? a month?

BTW - Sciurus, this is a great learning experience, and you'll learn a lot :)

Sciurus
February 7th, 2006, 10:22 AM
So whose idea are we going with? es's?

ar
February 7th, 2006, 04:50 PM
I feel so influencial :D. But how about we just let this be an open battle? Just so that once we get say, ten entries in, we vote on those, and continue off where we left off, so that all of this could go on for a long time.

GBP

ar
February 7th, 2006, 04:51 PM
And also, people, ElectricGrandpa will surely whip up something awesome, so I can't wait to see what he has in store.

Here's a wip of one of the buildings that I'm working on.
I'll only have to set in the inlays for the window panes and complete the doors. I'll be trying make a futuristic city. And to show the scale of this, there's enough room in the arch for a three or four lane road.

But what theme are we going with? Dwellings and scenery? Or just an ould thing?

ar
February 7th, 2006, 07:43 PM
It's any scenery, but with at least one or two houses / shelters.

GBP

TheHush

Haha maybe, we'll see ;). I'm just trying to think of a good idea... I really like this theme, but right now I can't stop thinking of the villages in Riven(these things: http://members.optusnet.com.au/riumplus/villageoriginal.jpg)

TheHush
February 12th, 2006, 10:33 PM
OOo! that's a good idea EG.

TheHush
February 13th, 2006, 01:24 PM
Heya Thijs,
this is an open 3d battle, with no real due date yet. The rules are :

Outdoor Scene
2 or more buildings/shelters etc.
Fully Rendered

Thijs
February 13th, 2006, 01:34 PM
my kinda battle!
cool
i'm in!

Will there be a deadline? else, i think, this battle is doomed to die.

ar
February 13th, 2006, 05:09 PM
I was thinking somewhere along the line of, when we get ten entries, we'll have a poll, and just repeate the cycle, and changing themes as we go.

But it all depends on the person that started this battle.

Hey hey.

is everybody working so hard on the battle that there's no time left to chat on the forum?

I did not find too much time yet to get started. I have some idea's though.

What's the rule about post-working in PS?

Pasquale

I take that you can crop and adjust lighting/contrast to your need. maybe text. It's usually standard like photography battles

ar
February 23rd, 2006, 10:14 AM
Yeah. But are there going to be any discussions to this or not? I've been checking up on this, and no one's even, well, participating.

i'm curious for all the submissions!

i have a question to the 3D MAX-hero's here.
i just made this test render and there happens to be a render-mistake in the image that i can't understand why it is there!
(3d max 7. mental ray)
help please!

render: a little bit right of the 'T E' (link) (http://www.thijspulles.com/kirupa/test08.jpg)

its either and object or you ave a really weird shadow...does that happen in scanline too?

I had to restart becuase my hard drive died, hopefully i can catch back up

Thijs
March 15th, 2006, 07:16 AM
Dying HD's are not fun. Goodluck with it. i hope you didn'ět loose too much data.

Thanks for awnsering my question about the weird spot. I moved the camera a bit. Played around with the light-settings and the spot left the image.

The text is broked.. :(

well i use maya and mental ray- what are your render settings? post a screen

Thijs
March 16th, 2006, 09:00 AM
Hey Darkmotion, thanks for the will to help.... i moved the camera, changed the light settings... and the problem disappeared. So i can't even show you my render-settings since all is changed. thanks anyway..

but i repeat my question of before: How is the work going on? it really seems to me that also this battle died lonely.

signifer123
March 18th, 2006, 04:28 PM
Ok well i'm still thinking of what i want to do...but what abut humans must we model them in our normal app(maya,3ds max, lightwave) or can weu se zygote models and clothe and skin those

http://www.open3dproject.org/us/user/home.php

Imageshack is down so i can't put up a WIP yet

so yeah i need to finish modelling, then texture and light correctly :P, and for some reason i'm stuck with scanline metal ray won't support 3 global lights

hows everyone else?
