View Full Version : Very early stages of a portfolio

Hello people
I came up with this idea couple of days ago.. So I started creating an online portfolio just to apply it.

Website will have a blog, a profile page, a shoutbox and a gallery.

I have a main part in the middle and menus are on the sides. I want to make each page different in style so that it may represent different 'me's...

So.. I'm really just beginning but, I want to ask if I am on the right track.

What do you think?

Thanks..

great start. . . your preloader is nice and subtle. Some suggestions I would make:
- give some kind of indication to click to enter. Be creative or a simple "Click to Enter" will do.
- I like your idea about the menus coming out of the sides. But it looks odd when the top menu is not out. The dead space makes it appear incomplete. I would suggest having the main box start at the top of the page instead of the middle. And when you open the blog menu, then you can have the main box lower to its current position. Just an idea. . .
- also, some very subtle sounds for rollovers and such would be nice.
(Though I know it's hard to find some that aren't too annoying). Great job so far. Keep it up. :thumb2:

Why such a huge stage size for such a small viewing area?
Other wise I like where its going though :)

Firstly, I knew that I was going to have trouble with the resolution from the beginning.
Well when all of the pages are opened, it takes considerably big space. Yeah..It is different but, it is a different design I guess.
I thought about starting from top left corner but, the middle main part is fix, strong and..It is just the main page and it is like the center of the whole page. It would not be a good idea to move it back and forth in my opinion.

yeah, it was just an idea. But something does need to be done about the size. Most of your average viewers will be at 1024x768. And some will still be using 800x600. Right now, your site is locked at 1120x845. One suggestion: I know many don't like using splash or intro pages anymore. But if you did, you could have the main page open in a window without toolbars. It wouldn't completely solve the size problem. But it would give you a little more space.

That is look very very nice. I like it alot! My resolution is only 1024x768, and well, the thing is sitting down in the bottom right hand corner, had to scroll around a bit to put it in the middle. So yeah, id do somtin about that, and the clicking of the text after the preloader, i didnt really know what to do for a bit.

Other than thoose technical issues the design is ultra nice. Looking forward to seeing the final thing.

i think it would be a good idea to limit the number of fonts you plan to use .
there's 4 or 5 right now and it would strengthen your design to consolidate it to the essential.

i like the look, other than that... check your hit box on the blog, tab it doesnt open very often, thought it didn't until there was a fluke and it popped up.

i REALLY like that, really creative, nice use of menus, mabye when the page first loads, make it load with everything expanded, just to show that they can expand, and then make them minimize to the middle really quickly

I think that's a neat idea Apix.

i eventually stumbled on the menus after staring blankly at the spirited logo in the centre for about 5mins, waiting for something to come up. it looks gorgeous..however...:

1. Its far too big, you should really design a site with 800x600 ppl in mind. I'm on 1024x768 and i had to scroll quite a bit!

2. You need to load the first page or load a menu once the preloaders done. otherwise ppl will just close it without clicking blankly.

Thank you.
Two main problems: resolution and preloader. I will work on it.

However I am trying to find an idea to keep the actual position of the SWF but to start with the SWF centered. I am trying. Or at least I will try to make it fullscreen.

I decided to change the theme of the site to 'city nature' like...

Asphalts...Tagged walls... Dirty sidewalks..

and me? :/
