3 weeks after I met my g/f, I went to an Accupuncturist (2 visits), and I haven't had a cigarette in over 2 1/2 years. Haven't even wanted one. I had quit several times before, always had "the urge" . This time, I'm fine with people smoking (most of my "City" friends still smoke), I even have several ashtrays out for them when they come over, I just don't want a cigarette...

when I said clover I meant clove ;)

clove is a spice that can be smoked and is I believe supposed to be a relaxer, though I think for the most part, clove cigarettes also contain tobacco. But its a smokers 'alternative'. To be honest I dont know too much about it - I just had a few friends who smoked them.

I was going to an accupuncturist for my knee, and I happened to mention that I wanted to stop smoking. On the first visit he needled my right ear in about 15 places, and put little magnets with points (like little bb that have been sharpened) covered in sticky tape type stuff, and placed them on my left ear in the same places as he needled on the right. When I got the urge to smoke, I was instructed to "manipulate" the bb's. The next week I went back, he did the other side. I have not had the urge to smoke since. Absolutely amazing. Now don't get me wrong, I wanted to quit. I sent a friend down to see him, she went through 1 treatment, and lit a cig on the way out of his office...

I think most of it is in your mind, but what the hell, it seems to have aleviated quite a bit of the pain in my knee, and I don't smoke cigs any more... I'm not disgusted by them, I just don't want one...

But I don't think there is a lot of science involved (I don't really care, since a lot of my pain is gone). Adrenaline is an amazing chemical on it's own...

I really do think you have to almost "have faith" for it to work. An extremely open mind is required.

Later on, acupuncturists discovered a correlation between the earlobes and vision.

plus with chiro, once you get started, you are addicted... You have to continue to go for the rest of your life...

With accupuncture (my doc does a minor back adjustment with each visit... in other words, he cracks my back), there is a prescripted treatment, number of visits, a dietary prescription, excercise is recommended, and progress is charted.

Then again, keep in mind that I live right next to the largest concentration of Chinese people outside of mainland China...

I smoke like a train .. wish I didn't, glad to hear so many don't-

Accupuncture has worked very well for us for a number of things though I've never thought to ask about the smoking treatment from them...havta give that a go...

My wife was majorly sceptical about accupuncture and deathly afraid of needles but when her chronic back pain got soooo bad she was ready to go buy bullets - I got her to an old chinese man downtown ... she never felt better in years after only one trip there, a few more trips and was totally pain free...
she had no faith whatsoever and it worked for her

...pretty much my story a few years earlier, I believe now :beam:

It was explained to me once that our nerves can kink/twist blocking and/or diverting the flow of energy pulses to the brain which cause a short circuiting effect of sorts wherein we experience sensations of pain and that precise placement of the needles would cause our bodies to (microscopically) *nudge* them back into proper alignment in a reflexual manner.

...sounded good, esp. when he explained it...:!:

Similar to my knee, and why I decided to give him a try. I am still amazed how I can have friends over, they can smoke all they want, all I need is a fan going to move the air around...

BTW RR... if you want my guy's #, look up Joseph Chang on Lafayette St. (right above Real Guitars) in the phone book. That's him... great guy, reasonable prices too...

not really. You feel it, but it doesn't hurt, so to speak. It isn't painful, you don't walk away sore at all, actually revived with a bit of a rush...

It's very hard to explain, but pain is not even close (I don't like needles at all).

There is heat lamps to keep you warm, he talks to you, explaining what he is doing, asking questions... It's kinda relaxing and refreshing at the same time...

I smoke.. too much.. but then again, one a day is too much.

I'm at about a pack a day, but I only smoke half a cig and then put it out... so I suppose it's more like a half a pack a day.. or a third if you consider than the most harmful part to smoke is the last inch of the cig.

can't afford it? I know it's bad.. I shouldn't turn people on to cheaper ways of killing themselves.. but recently I came across a good deal and it's worth it to every smoker out there to listen up. Find a smoke shop in your area, go in and ask them to see a good cig rolling machine and the supplies. You wont be disapointed. I'm now paying 5 cents a cig. (yes they have filters. The toobs come preassembled with a filter attached. The machine just pushing the tobacco into the toob) The deal is that loose tobaco is not taxed by the state, and the toobs are not taxed at all being a paper product. The majority of the cost of tax on cigs is state tax.
Personaly I like the fresh cigs better. It takes a few minutes to roll up a pack, but you can do it while watching tv or listening to music. The fresh cigs are so much nicer than the prepackaged ones.. you'll never go back.
Anyway.. total cost for the machine, a carton of toobs and a carton of tobacco is less than a carton of prepackaged cigs.. so the first purchace you're actually saving money. From then on it's about 5 cents a cig. I've saved about 700 dollars in the last couple months of doing this.

upuaut
April 17th, 2003, 03:00 AM
oh.. and someone asked about "clover" cigs. By me they're called "clove" cigs. Very bad for you, but tasty. They are made with ground clove mixed in with the tobacco.

upuaut
April 17th, 2003, 03:02 AM
Thomas Jefferson once said.. "A life without tobacco is not worth living at all."

granted they didn't know back then all the health problems associated.. but I always thought it was an interesting quote.

RelandR
April 17th, 2003, 03:05 AM
An ironically cool twist to that info would be that if one did Not *pre-roll* more than one or three of em at a time.... Perhaps the extra thought and effort put into getting the next smoke may trim the habbit down to a real low roar and ultimately into dropping the habbit alltogether (???)

RelandR. I do have a friend who has recently quit using that method. You do need just as much will power to go that way as any other though. I, personaly roll them one at a time while I'm at home. Not only are they more fresh, but exactly for that reason... I know when I want a cig, it'll take me a minute rather than having it instantaniously. Often I'll just end up not smoking for a while.

[Legoman]
April 17th, 2003, 07:17 AM
I've never used a machine, I prefer to hand roll 'em. I like the taste of a rolly much better than a pack of cigs, and far cheaper too. I don't use filters as much as I should though.

plus it's therapeutic to roll.

Dude, there's no way that's possible... "microscopically" But have you ever heard of myotherapy? That works wonders for me. I used to run cross country in HS, and I would usually be very sore the day after. With myotherapy, you press into a certain spot in your muscles, and it releases the lactic acid in there... It's awesome. I've done it on other people too.. and they feel completely num afterwards.. completely relaxed, etc.

I think acupunture might work in the same manner.
