If I have a Illustrator document with linework on a layer, then a photo on a layer on top of it, when I print to PDF I get very thin white lines on the photo where the underlying linework is.
It doesnt print with the lines, but they're annoying if you send the PDF to other who can't see past the lines on screen and think its the end of the world. I've tried everything I can think of as well as googling, but hopefully one of you will have solved this problem.
Thanks

any chance we can see a screenshot?
I have had issues with pdf's before as they do funny things with postscript data (eg your vector lines) I believe the pdf reader has a viewing quality setting which fixes that, but you cant always expect your client to know or be able to adjust this setting. Can you possibly send the file as a rough jpg to the client?

This probably has nothing to do with it (especially if you're using non-professional printers), but is the underlaying artwork using 'overprint fill/stroke ?' (window>attributes)
do the lines show up in the 'flattener preview' ?

check the PDF settings when u save as PDF format, it has severl options:
High quality Print
Press Quality
Small size etc etc
so when you save file as PDF in a high resolution, High Quality Print or Press formats and when you finally open saved PDF you have to zoom like 200% 300% to see its best quality in this case - lines.

This is a screenshot of what I get in a PDF. It doesnt occur in illustrator itself, or if I send the illustrator file and ask the recipient to open it in acrobat.

Why don't you save as PDF rather than printing to PDF? Just turn off the option to preserve the ability to edit in Illustrator. It'd be worth a shot anyhow.

aye, tis weird indeed !
could you post your file (though I doubt you want to) or a screendump of your layers palette ? (all layers expanded ?)

Those thin lines should not show up when printed - only when viewing. You can adjust the acrobat viewer preferences to get rid of them but then all your vector art will look jagged on screen (not printed). It's the "smooth line art" checkbox if you want to check it out.
BTW, that effect is there because your probably using some sore of tranparency effect (opacity, a layer effect, drop shadows, etc) in your document.

Check your layers in illustrator..try to flatten all of them, then export to a .pdf. I have seen this problem before.

.....Illustrator and InDesign 3 and lower. We get thin white lines, for ex. if we mount an image on top of an other and export to PDF. Same thing if we output PS-files and run them thru Distiller.
First we thought that it only was a screen viewer problem cause it dindnīt show up on our EPSON 9600 (with ColorProof XF), only when viewed on screen. But some times it does show up on the printers plates.
Does any body know how to correct this or get a workaround for it.
Iīve read tons of stuff and more or less everything on www.adobe.com but they do mension this, but no solution. Or is it anyone else that found any thing?
