View Full Version : Wacom - Graphire or Volito?

That's it. I'm buying a Wacom. :D

My question is, which one to choose (Intuos and Cintiq are out of the question), Graphire or Volito?

Based on my research, the only major difference is in the active area and the resolution of the tablet. Now. The active area will suite me just fine I think, but the resolution is worrying me. What does it actually mean/do? Is it important? Volito = 1016dpi, Graphire = 2000dpi.

I will be using the tablet for drawing and animating in Flash. You think that the active area (A6) and the resolution of 1016dpi will suit me good for that?

Any tips would be GREATLY appriciated! Thanks!

I have a graphire 4, and it's awesome. Has two programable buttons and a scroll on the tablet that I use all the time. If the Volito doesn't have that, then I wouldn't even bother. Also the graphire's before 4 don't have that either.

you gonna be using it for print??

If so go for the Graphire 4, otherwise get the Volito 2 - I've had both (I use the Graphire 4 now) and both are excellent.

I will be using the tablet for drawing and animating in Flash.

If that is all you're doing, save the money and get something cheap
1016dpi, 2000dpi? Means absolutely nothing in Flash. Go with the lowest common denominator

personally for animation i prefer wacom

:stare:

Graphire and Volito are both Wacom.

AAaaaanyway, thanks a bunch for the tips. I'm gonna go for a Volito and then when I get a bunch of money, i'll buy an Intuos. When i get a lot of money, i'll get a Cintiq. Wow. Talking about the cycle of life (work, buy, work, buy). :D

See you when I test it out. ;)

I'd actually probably go for the Graphire if you are gonna be working in Photoshop its just a fair bit more sensitive....of course the difference between the 2 is little if you exlude the scroller and the 2 buttons on the actual tablet :)

The Volito 2 is great, I had the first volito two and that was great :) the only thing that annoys me is that they should of kept the built in stand like on the first volito instead of creating a space where the volito lies...its just more effort to pickl it up :(

I already ordered a Volito 2 today and I think i'll be fine with it. I'm just a bit scared of the small size but we'll see. I can always scale stuff up :)

My :2c: (although you've already purchased) is if you're a serious artist the sensitivity is a big difference. I've used all versions of the Wacom Intuos and I have 3 of them right now. 2 Intuos2, and an Intuos3. The Intuos3 is a large improvement over the 2 simply because of the spring loaded tips (nibs as they call them) that give you more control over the pressure. I've not really used a Graphire and I know I haven't used a Volito, but but if you're not doin any type of art then I think almost any other one would suit you.

I've used the Cintique... but when I used it, it had just been released to the world so I think that it was kinda jumpy. The mouse would lag behind me when I was drawing so it was kinda frustrating... but I'd imagine you would get used to it. But I'm sure they've improved that too. When and if you get the money for one of those bad boys I'd definately recommend it.

Naah i'm not a big artist. More like a learning artist. I'll be learning to draw Marvel style characters and such. I already developed a style on the paper but now I want to make a step further and start animating those pieces so I hope this'll be good enough.

@luksy - you'll find that the A6 is more than adequate :)

My brother at his work (he does AutoCad, Inventor etc) he uses one of those Cintiques (or however you spell them) to show the people who work on the building e.g. archatects how the electronis etc will be incorporated into the building plan....he brought it home one day when he had some work to do and it looked pretty cool....he didn't buy it of course but it was one of those "poser" tools :)
