photoshop question:
after i create a shape using the pen tool, many filters are disabled. anyone know why? i rasterized the layer.
also, how can you guys make lines so smooth?

you cannot apply filters to shape layers. you can try to get the same result using layer effects though.
edit: what effect are you trying to get and what do you mean by 'make lines so smooth'?

thanks for the reply. :)
i was trying to make something like this: http://img234.imageshack.us/my.php?image=jandesk3eo.jpg
my second choice would be to use flash instead of photoshop, because flash can do very smooth lines...

i rasterized the layer.
That's why it's not smooth. I suggest keepin it vector, and use the blending options.

what exactly on that page do you want to do? most of that page can quite easily be created with layer effects and blending modes.

i'm sorry, i didn't rasterize the layer in the one i'm doing. i did inner shadow, which blurs the outline a little and makes it look smooth. but what if i wanted to create it really smooth lines as we can easily do in flash?
.soulty - i'm actually doing the whole thing similar to it.
let me try again though.
edit: okay what the hell, i made a shape using pen, and now i want to apply gradient to it, and the gradient gets applied to the whole thing, instead of the shape....
thanks all.
after playing around with ps, i must say that ps is the most crappy software ever... all those functions become 0 when trying to do something creative.
i quit, screw ps, it's too useless. i'd rather create an image in flash.
ok, i tried the same thing in fireworks, and man, in less than 15 minutes, i have the set up done... sometimes too much good stuff can be bad... :(

you quit quick don't you, lol..
select your shape layer, go to layer effects, tick gradient overlay on the left.

Get your facts right. :a:

That quote sucks badly. You can't say that to the best graphics program in the world just because you don't know how to work in it. :/

okay, maybe i was wrong, but ps is a lot weird than fireworks. in fireworks you can make any shape and still apply the gradient easily. in ps, you can't apply that using the gradient tool anymore. so it's like two features that just do the same thing basically but one has to put more effort to create the same thing. :td:
oh well, i'll try again in ps.

ps = raster
fw = vector
If you want to work with vectors, do it in a program that is specialized for that. Right? :)
