what do you mean while retaining the lines as paths.

If i understand you correctly, the knife tool or the scissors tool in illustrator should do the job

Attached is and AI file format of what im trying to do. Basically, the three black lines are there to remove the parts of the circular path that i don't want. Basically i'd like to cut the circular path creating three curved path lines that still remain vector paths.

Do you want wedges or just curved lines? If you want wedges then do object > path > Outline Stroke. Then use the pathfinder menu and subtract it from the circle. If you just want the lines then Ψ is right. The scissors should do exactly what you want, just select them, click the line where you want your cuts made and delete the extra parts.

I'd hit it with the Divide pathfinder. Then Ungroup it and delted the unwanted parts.

can this be done in Macromedia Fireworks too? And yes I'd like rounded encaps not wedges which is why i wanted to keep the curve lines as editable vector path lines. :cowboy:
