I just think it looks nice. The menu's a bit glossy, though.

and those things have been around since before apple. You're just seeing parallels in OS development. The fact that Apples release cycle is a lot shorter that MSs is why it seems like MS is doing nothing but copying them. Not to say there isnt some copying going on, but its not like Apple hasnt done the same with MS (quick user switching for example).

If you are a parent, you now have a rich set of controls to ensure your children are only playing games that you consider appropriate. You can allow or restrict your children's access to games according to game title, rating, category, or content. Windows Vista supports six international rating standards and makes it easy for parents to manage and monitor their children's gaming experience.
ooh man :( no more blood and violence for me.

The site looks really nice. One thing I like is that the page looks good even on higher resolution screens. The footer is not fixed width, and the graphic does not create a hard cut-off between the content and the background.

The site is nicely designed. Why is it devoid of Flash? Let's hope screen redraw rates are vastly improved in vista. I've always been fond of the remnant of one window over another. Hopefully they've hired some competent security people to significantly reduce hacks and viruses. Overall a step in the right direction.

i'm sure they have been, just not around in mainstream stuff like whats going on today.
and i meant to say "do they", freudian slip :P
dont get me wrong however, i'll definitely update because i'm a big fan of whats going on with all of this. i always liked some of that stuff in OSX and its a welcome addition to windows, just kinda weird how it all comes one after the other.

yeah a lot of things apple have already included in OSX - ie the front row feature on the imac's are now in vista, expose is now in vista (switching between open windows).... gadgets...
the scary thing is - ms are getting all the current apple features and incorporating them into windows - this means that they are basically the same features in both cept windows has the massive market share...
and the reason many people are on apple are because of those features (i certainly know they swayed me)...
the upcoming keynote in san fransisco and steve jobs better have some aces up his sleeve.
im a dual user of mac's and window's so i'm excited (hey it's a win win situation for me - great features now on both os's - :D)

Whatever Microsoft supposedly copies is a good feature; it makes it better, isn't that what you want? And anyway, it's not like Apple doesn't do the same... Sometimes.

Bad examples. Front Row? Come on, Windows Media Center has been around long before that. Apple is just now starting to get into that market.
And expose isnt much more than a fancy task switcher which has always been around and not to mention seen as superior in windows due to how window handling is managed on the Mac (expose has long been needed on Macs). Plus Windows has just about always had a show desktop command (thank you expose again for finally bringing that to the Mac). Like with what Apple did with quick user switching, its a step up from the old, nothing exactly entirely new.
And ever hear of konfabulator? That started (at least in idea) in 1998. Though for the originally for th Mac, it was not made by Apple and a Windows version was later released.

i didn't necessarily mean microsoft are copying apple cos microsoft are the big guys in the instance and have done a lot of things before apple - i was referring to smaller things like flip 3D which is like an expose cept cooler.

Anybody here use vista yet? I have, it's pretty decent...so far anywho. I installed it on a 1.4 GHZ machine and it ran ok--but slow at times, and the zip program was buggy. It's cool that it comes with WMP 11 and IE7. I got a BSOD when trying to install an Audio Driver, so we aren't rid of those yet. They have a ways to go b4 the start selling it, but it's good stuff.

This is rather amusing: http://tauquil.com/archives/2006/01/06/re-introducing-the-real-windows-vista/
It's a video featuring MacOSX's features with Gates' CES presentation's audio overlaid onto it. The top one's great. :)

So far i'm not seeing much of a reason to get vista. From what i see, i could get pretty much the same functions by installing a windows XP theme :P
although i must say the new EMD (external memory device) and Hybrid Hard Drive technologies sound promising

I think the quick boot features are really nice and Im looking forward to the emphasis on security and user access. I think this will probably be the first time I purchase windows (as opposed to getting it via OEM).

Maybe they just want to make it look as close as possible cross-platform? I can see justification in that.
