Well, this is my first proper 3d model, made in Cinema 4D, it's not that great, and I'm gonna work on the lava a bit, but I just wanted some critiques.

It looks good.

Your light sources are off. You have a really strong light source coming from straight above....and your shadow goes off into the distance. If your light source is coming from straight above, the shadow is going to be around the base of the object.

You also have a mystery lightsource coming from the left side of the object which makes it look even more awkward.

If you modeled this from an actual lava lamp, take a light and hold it over the lava lamp and you'll see where the shadow falls.

That's not looking too bad. You're right about the lava needing some work but I have no idea how you'd go about making it glow.

It's not shabby... the model that is... but the lighting is absolutely wrong. Also the black on the base and the top of the lamp is to... black... there should be some shading to show that it has curvature to it.

dont forget to model the inside polys of the glass and add some refraction with a nice incident angle from the camera. Not too bad of a start..

I think you need to fix the shadow and make the lava more shine/vivid.
