Hey guys, i know Edwin, lost, and myself listen to techno, but i jsut want to see what other people think of it.

Edit: Electronic Music in general

Ryall
April 12th, 2003, 06:34 PM
I love it... it is what I spin for parties... what I study with ... and what I spend way too much money buying records for -- however, so you know, techno is a subset of electronic music, just like house, trance, breaks, jungle, hardcore, tribal, etc. are also. I assume you just meant electronic music in general, but if you were being specific, I'm suprised the techno genere is kinda on the back burner right now without many avid fans. My love for it (mostly house [funky/disco] and trance) comes from the emotion you can get out of it. An excellent track can invoke feelings of all different kinds in many different people. I'll cut myself off now cuz I tend to ramble on this subject....

Point is - IT ROCKS.

Peace

Hmm i didn tknow that Ryall. I thought techno was the mother off it all, I have heard trance once and was like WHAT? it is amazing.

vts31
April 12th, 2003, 06:45 PM
techno is too specific, do u mean electronic music in general?

Ryall
April 12th, 2003, 06:48 PM
yeah techno became the "mother of all" for people refering the general type of music (electronic) and still is really. Most people hear techno and think of any and all genres within electronic music, but really it is just another subgenre... but hey I like the word techno far better than "electronic music"!

What DJ's do you like? What composers do you like? I could turn you on to tons of good stuff if you want. If trance caught your ear then I have a list of stuff you should listen to. ;)

Peace

I listen to Drum and Bass, Jungle, Industrial, Trance, Ambient, Acid, etc, etc. When you listen to so many different types of Techno sometimes it is easier just to label it as Techno than saying all of them :P

Ryall
April 12th, 2003, 11:09 PM
techno does apply - to its specific style.... it is just that most people use "techno" as a cover all term for electronic music - which is great - but techno is actually a sub genere different than all others... people tend to forget that.

I don't really like Techno. I guess some are good, but I'm never going to buy a Techno CD. There's not enough "feeling" in it, in my opinion. I'm speaking of the crap "boom-pssh-boom-pssh" style here.

But like some of you said here, techno comes in different kinds. Some soundtracks ("Signs remix" by Paul Oakenfold,...) are very good. I don't really know if that's categorized as "techno".

Hooverphonic is cool, I agree. They are Belgians... ;) :trout:

Haha, I have their CDs... they're pretty good... however, I might break my record of never buying a SINGLE... the singles have really awesome remixes that I can't find online...

PS.. I never buy anything from anyone named "DJ Something"... I know I won't like it... You guys should go to to the record store and check out compilations like "Ultimate Chill out" - you might like it. Also, anything with the word Ibiza in it is pretty cool.. hehe.

I'm starting to get into thievery Corporation... although it's taking a while...

But electronic music IS filled with emotion. But you have to listen to more than just whats on the surface. It's weird... or I am weird... or both, but either way somethings weird :P :geek:

VERY TRUE Jubba, probably the most true thing i've heard in a long time.

Uhuh... I'll try to remember that. ;) It's not really my thing. There's much more emotion in pop, rock, hip-hop and rap (there are always exceptions of course).

Is "Love Don't Let Me Go" by David Guetta also categorized as Techno? They call it "Europop" over here, which is usually very commercial stuff.
Another example is Sylver (http://www.sylver.be/), which is a Belgian group. I think those are OK as well. You can hear a sample of their music on that site. Very popular in Belgium and other countries in Europe.

I LOVE ENIGMA! and ENYA! They are great music to do homework to. makes me concentrate...

Kajinku
April 13th, 2003, 04:32 PM
Yeah, Enigma is not bad. I love the stuff Enya did for the Lord of the Rings soundtrack. :)
I'm sure you know her, but Vanessa Mae has a couple of good things too. It's more pop/classical though.

lava
April 13th, 2003, 04:59 PM
you know what... I like Watermark by Enya, it's a really good cd. However, all the other ones.. oh god.. sorry.. can't stand them. Enigma's alright, but they border on that happy go lucky stuff that's way too corny for my taste. However, you guys might like Deep Forest and Andreas Vollenweider. Maybe Yanni... it's like enya... I like Live at the Acropolis, but hate all his other stuff...

However, if you want a mix of hard rock and classical, check out VAST's Visual Audio Sensory Theatre. That album is freaking awesome.

April 13th, 2003, 05:00 PM
oh, vannessa mae... I think she did the Castlevania soundtrack, or something...

kirupa
April 13th, 2003, 05:23 PM
I didn't think Yanni was considered techno, but if it is, I'm all for it! I have almost all of Yanni's CDs, and I find his last two CDs to be more of my liking. If I Could Tell You and his latest work Ethnicity are really good.

I like many of Enya's more recent songs (from the past 5 years).

Cheers!

Never heard of VAST's Visual Audio Sensory Theatre, but I will ask it in the record store next time I'm going into town.

If you want some light metal / classic / rocky style, check out Within Temptation's "Mother Earth" album. Especially the songs "Ice Queen" and "Mother Earth" are awesome! They are a Dutch group and had a big hit with those two songs in the Benelux last summer... I don't know if you will find their albums in the US, but they became pretty big...

I love techno, trance and so (....) but I listen to (and I really like) rock, rap, hiphop, r&b. I cant stand country and pop like Britney and so, but I never say that it's bad till I've listened to it :)

Enigma is not bad :) I've got 37 songs of Enigma. I really like Push The Limits, but other songs of them are too... quiet and a bit boring.

Yeah, well, I didn't mean all the European countries of course. I know that they are popular in France, Germany, Holland, Spain, Italy, etc. I was very surprised when I heard old Sylver songs on the Finnish radio as "latest hit". :)
It's maybe not super popular in Lithuania, but at least you heard of them. ;)

There's this other Belgian techno group, Milk Inc., but I don't know if they are well-known outside the Benelux.

Paul van who? Sorry, never heard of the guy. I'm not really a techno fan, but after some research on Google I believe he's German. His name sounds Belgian/Dutch though.

But I can't stand happy hardcore. Let me reiterate, I despise happy hardcore...
It's like 200bpm and drives you nuts in less than 15 seconds...
