making sign up via email verification works better than restricting IP's - this way they'd have to own the email account in order to complete the process...very cumbersome to search out/obtain new *valid* emails than just to make them up as you go.

Banning IP's is a difficult choice because there are many who have dynamic IP assignments... they'd only have to close their connection and then reLaunch the access app. to get a diff IP.... and then the next poor soul that gets the banned-IP is outta luck and doesn't know why

mmmhhh, it IS easy to get adresses. I currently own 25 aol adresses due to my AIM screenames and have at least 5 hotmail accounts, as well as my actual internet provider (3 adresses)...
I think IP ban is much more efficient, although it never stays the same I think (my DSL connection changes my IP once a day)
