Rules/Objective:

- Objective: Create your own Xbox 360 faceplate with a design of your choice.

- You Must use the Xbox 360 image supplied in this thread. Do not re-size the image.

- One entry per person.

- Entries are to be posted in this thread by Jan 15, 2006.

- BoonDock & B3NKobe will both review all submitted entries, the top 10 entries will then be selected & have a poll thread set up for voting by forum members.

That would be better if we could see the whole thing, but I like the black and just green glows!

Oh, on another note, just so everyone knows, if you want to design it for a horizontal position, make sure that you know that the cd drive is on top of everything, and that the controller ports are below it...if it's horizontal. So for example, mlk's design if it was turned and placed horizontal, his "xbox" glowing script towards the top would be upside down...just to letcha know! Thanks!

Absolutely nice, but needs some work on the green glow (make it red!)

and and as for mine, you can actually see the whole thing if your monitor is bright enough. My bad, maybe I'll tone it up.

Hey. Thanks. Yeah I should've spent more time on the power button. I actually did try and make it red, butfor some reason I went back to green. On an actual faceplate can the light colors be changed or are they on the actual system itself?

yeah the overheated one was my fav too, that was the actual idea. The normal one was just for the fun of it.

Yup :D, I wanted to mess around with ZBrush for this one so thats what I came out with. I had an old graphic that I made awhile back that looked like blood so I used that for the coloring of the faceplate ------> http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v280/ftulink/Hell.jpg
I wanted to make some original brushes for this but I kind of like that default crazy star one so I decided just to use that one to make the buttons look a little different. I'm not much of a PSer so I tend to use ZBrush for these sort of things.

Alright this is kind of how I did it. Me not being a PSer there might be a better way. I didn't want to put all the images on here as it would make it really long so I just linked to them. First of all open the xbox360-1.jpg in Photoshop that BoonDock has kindly provided us. Open your layers window and you will see that it puts the jpg on the background layer http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v280/ftulink/tutor1.jpg
double click on that layer and rename it to remove it from the background layer. I named mine layer 0

Then click on Add A Mask

Alright now you need to find an image that you want to use to combind it with. I'll use an image I created awhile back for this tutorial. Once you find it open it up in photoshop and cut a piece off thats close to the same size as the the original xbox360 jpg. (its actually W:308 by H:901) just cut off something close. I cut mine off left to right and then rotated it 90 degrees.

Alright now you want your images to be the same size so look at the dimensions of the original. go to Image then Image size.

Now switch to your other file and go to Image Image size and type these dimensions into there. You might need to click off constrain proportions on the bottom.

Alright they are both in different files, so now we need to copy the image that you want to make your xbox look like and put that into another layer of the original file. So go to the other file and select all and hit copy. Now go back to the original file and hit layer/New/Layer. now paste and this will put that image into that layer.
make sure your new layer in on the bottom of the other. Now click inside of the mask that you created on your fist layer and grab your gradient tool (its with the paint bucket tool) make it black to white and throw the gradient on your image. You can mess with the gradient settings at the top. you should get something similar to this.

Now the image that your using to color your x box is going outside of where you want it to go. Now save your file but dont save over the original xbox360-1.jpg. Don't close photoshop. Now reopen the original xbox360.jpg. Use your magic wand tool at a tolerence of 5 or so and select the outside white area and the inside area where the door is. Now go to select/inverse (shift-crtl-i). this will select the inverse (obviously) now hit delete and you will be left with this.

Now we need to copy this image and put it on a layer in the original document. So select all and hit copy, switch over to your original document and create a new layer and paste it on that layer. move that layer to be the top layer and you should get something like this.

You can now go back to your layer that has the Mask and mess around with your gradient some more. Now you can save this file as a bmp so that it flattens out the layers, meaning there is only one layer that you can play with (im not sure how this is done without saving it as an image file but im sure it can be done somehow). Open that bmp (or whatever) and now you can mess with some filters and other effects. I probably did it the dumb way but thats the only way that I know how to do it. I hope this tutorial helps you. If you have any questions let me know and I'll try to help. I hope I didn't leave any steps out.
